A Stimulating Semester

It is hard to believe Semester One is nearing completion.  The past two terms have been stimulating, engaging and rewarding.  The staff and I wish all Junior School families a safe and enjoyable three week break.  We look forward to the students returning to classes on Tuesday, 16th July.

Year Three Assembly

We were thoroughly entertained on Monday by the Year Three Class and their interpretation of Colin Thiele’s classic Australian short story ‘Storm Boy’.  The students created a script from scratch, based on the story of the boy and his pelican on the South Australian Coorong.  In the 20 minute presentation, the students faultlessly delivered their lines without referring to their script.  Congratulations to Mrs Milich and her talented team of students.

Junior School Reports

Semester One reports will be available to parents via PAM (Parental Access Module) on Friday, June 21st, from 5.00 pm.  Please take the time to sit and read through these reflective documents with your children.  Junior School parent/teacher interviews will be held in Week Three of next term.

School Sports Victoria State Cross Country

On Thursday, July 18th, Zoe Addinsall will represent the Junior School at the State Cross Country Championships in Bundoora Park, Melbourne.  Zoe placed third at the Regionals on June 3rd in Warrnambool. Ava Mould and Jake Butcher also competed whole-heartedly at this event.

Worthy Causes

Last Friday, the Junior School raised over S160.00 in a ‘Do It For Dolly/Touch of Blue’ fundraiser.  Students wore a touch of blue and donated gold coins.  Year Six leaders Oscar Hausler, Ciaran Nelson and Jock Nicholls organised the event.  Proceeds will be sent to the ‘Do It For Dolly’ Foundation and the Samaritan’s Purse.

Hockey Results

College Division Five lost 3-0 to Monivae.  An elusive goal is not far away for this young team.  Best for College were Maggie Mercer, Phoebe Alexander and Finn Hawthorne.

College Bandicoots defeated Dunkeld 3-0.  Jono Stewart played well in goals, as did Amelie Hiscock on the wing.  The Bandicoots defensive set up thwarted Dunkeld’s attack all afternoon, with Rupert Merrin, Jacob Butcher and Izzi Adamson starring.

College Drop Bears were defeated 6-4 by Demons in a tremendous match.  The lead swapped several times in the 10 goal thriller.  Best for Drop Bears were Chloe Laidlaw in goals, Alex Donovan in the forward line, Hugh Stratmann at fullback and centre half Harry Austin.

Laidlaw House - Junior School Community Connection

We are in the final week of term, and we would love it if any items that are to be donated to the Operation Christmas Child ‘Samaritans Purse’ fundraiser please be dropped off at the Junior School reception.  At the start of Week 2 we hope to send away our shoeboxes.
