Wellbeing at Preshil during these screentastic times

There has never been a more important time to be consciously reflecting on your wellbeing. With so much uncertainty in life right now, being aware of how to look after your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions of health and wellbeing is paramount to ensuring we can remain in control of ourselves.

Here at Preshil we are committed to providing best practice wellbeing support to students, and the Preshil community in general, during this current time of world crises. In many ways it is simply business as usual, only virtually.

From a teacher's perspective, all our highly qualified and trained staff are continuing to be their amazing selves, engaging with students in the best way they can under these trying circumstances. This includes the delivery of high quality synchronous and asynchronous sessions, which will move to support students from the perspective of pedagogical wellbeing. In addition to this, all staff will be on the lookout for any ‘out of the ordinary’ behaviour which would potentially signify a decline in mental health for whatever reason and will be addressing this individually with the students themselves, or reporting this to parents and/or coordinators.

From the perspective of the Wellbeing coordinator, it is my role to engage with students to help address any specific concerns regarding social and emotional health. This will continue to occur through email, text, phone, zoom and in person on-site - if students would like to come in to the School. This could be in the context of: one-on-one, group, mediation for groups, broad group discussion, and psycho-education within class contexts.

In addition to this, there will continue to be parent support as required. The School website will continually be updated with relevant wellbeing resources and can be a great first point of contact for parents or students who are looking for extra support: https://www.preshil.vic.edu.au/community/wellbeing-resources/

In an attempt to bridge the gap within the community during this time, I have started an Instagram account @howwellisyourbeing which will endeavour to be a source of valuable wellbeing tips and information, silly and joy-filled activities, and of course features the adventures of Charlie the wonder dog who misses you all terribly.

If you would like to read more on reflecting for wellbeing, here is a recent article from the latest Arlington newsletter which outlines some additionally helpful reflective practices.

We all need help sometimes. I encourage you to reach out if you, or someone you know, is in need of assistance in these times.

Wishing you all the best.
