Year 8

Each year Term 4 arrives with a glorious burst of sunshine and a big burst of energy as Year 8 students head off to camp. Year 8 camp really signifies the beginning of the end of Year 8. The days and weeks seem to fly by in a myriad of activity and suddenly the students have outgrown their blazers and Year 9 is predominantly in their thoughts.

It is good to stop and reflect on the year that is drawing to a close. The young men have undertaken the process of subject/ elective selection for 2020. They have eagerly participated in the final rounds of sports, and the reward of a summer holiday not too far away.

As Year Level Coordinator it is always a pleasure to be part of the journey. This year has been no exception. I am very proud of our students and their hard work especially in this Second Semester. It was good to see them take on the challenges of camp stepping out of regular comfort zones and supporting each other. It is always lovely to watch the developing friendships and the competitive spirited games of tap ball with ever changing rules. We have enjoyed many happy days of light hearted banter and the tense days of study and exams. There have been days of tears and tissues few and far between thanks to a dedicated staff who are motivated by our living Lasallian Charism.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at Year 8 but especially the Homeroom teachers for all their care and support of the students. I thank all the parents who have been an essential part of our partnership. Your kindness and support has been amazing. I thank all the Year 8 students who represent our college in the best possible ways. I look forward to teaching you in the future and wish you and your families a blessed Christmas and prosperous 2020.

Homeroom Reflections

Class 8.1

Homeroom 8.1 is a class full of challenges, academic and sporting achievements. Our first homeroom teacher, Ms Blake, supported us all throughout the first semester of year 8. Some students of 8.1, with her help, were able to achieve many awards and excel in their learning.

Aden Lewis, Damon Woods, Xavier Webb and Kaleb Hills each received academic awards under the teachings of Ms Blake. One of our students, Zachary Fernandez, also received the award of “Academic DUX” for the first semester of year eight. Our class strongly contributed to the Walkathon this year; with another one of our students, Xavier Brown, raising over $100 for the cause. We also had many students involved in the junior production this year, “The Boy at the Edge of Everything”. James Georgiou, Aden Lewis and Zachary Fernandez, each earning their very own role in the production.

After the end of semester one, Ms Blake was offered a job outside of school, allowing Mr Grech to fill in the role of our homeroom teacher. This gave us a new style of teaching and feel in the classroom overall. Both teachers offered their own unique thing to the class and managed to make class fun.
