Religious Education

Hope in the person of Jesus Christ opens up to us new horizons of goodness and rightness; the birth of Jesus challenges the mirages of dominance and self-centredness.

In Jesus our hope is born:

He is good for us now;

We can find our future in Him;

Our trust is assured through Him;

And we are invited to work with Him.

Continue to believe in Jesus Christ, born from God and born of Mary; for he offers us his life so that we might find our lives in him.

We recently celebrated the annual St James College Thanksgiving Mass in which we prayed for those Year 7-9 students who will be moving into the next year of their education at St James College in 2020. We prayed that they will continue to use their own individual gifts and talents to help them continue to get the very best out of themselves. This special liturgical celebration was held at St Peter’s Church on Thursday 5 December and we were led in prayer by Father Brian Collins.

Later in the afternoon, during the 2019 Graduation Mass  led by Father Ian Ranson, we celebrated the achievements of our wonderful group of Year 10 students and we prayed particularly for all the families who are moving away from St James College next year. We prayed that they too would continue to be blessed and guided by the love of God as they continue their journey into the future.

As we now approach Christmas and celebrate the season of Advent, I would encourage you to spend some time with your family and maybe chat about opportunities you might have to express your collective faith, in prayer and also through your own actions towards others. During this season of “closeness” it might be the appropriate time to look at the way in which we can assist those who are without those close family ties and who are less fortunate than ourselves.

I wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas!

“For to us a child is born,

To us a son is given.

And the government will be upon his shoulder;

and his name will be called

“Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Is 9:6)
