Year Advisers Reports

Year 7

I cannot believe that Year 7 are nearly finished their first year of high school. They a have had an extremely busy start to the term. On the first week this term, all of Year 7 were lucky enough to participate in a STEM Taster Day as part of the Sydney University STEM Academy Team. On this day all Year 7 were introduced to the idea of STEM and participated in multiple STEM activities including bridge building, roller coasters and wind powered cars. It is intended that the Year 7 STEM Taster Day will be an introduction to the Year 8 STEM program that all Year 7 students will participate in throughout Year 8. Through this day all students engaged in processes that enable them to experience the breadth of creativity involved in STEM, and develop their higher order and critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of STEM related careers.

Year 7 are busily organising their $20 boss project for PBL. In their groups they are organising a number of stalls that will run like a business next Wednesday during the market day. During this experience the students have learnt about managing finances, budgeting, building a business brand, advertising and being successful entrepreneurs. Also in HR students are working collaborative to produce a poetry magazine.

Congratulations to Jessica Hunter who has made amazing volleyball achievements so far this year. Jessica has been competing in the NSW U14 team and at the State Squad Presentations recently she was named the Most Valuable Player in her team. Jessica has now been invited to a Junior Development Camp for volleyball later this year. Congratulations Jessica on your success.

As the end of the year is fast approaching, Year 7 stay focused, enthusiastic and never give up. Be kind to one another and remember “Self-belief is the secret to success”.

Year 9

Year 9 have had a good start to the last term of this term. They have hit the ground running in regards of assessment tasks. Year 9 do have a lot of assessment task at the moment and most are doing an amazing job at being organised and ready for their tasks. Well Done!

For the first 5 weeks of Term 4, a group of 40 Year 9 students have been supporting Year 6 students through the STAR program. The STAR program is an extra orientation program to help a small group of Year 6 students learn there way around our amazing school and help them feel more comfortable coming to High School next year. Our Year 9  Peer Support leaders have been helping students over come their fears about high school in a fun and caring environment. They have been building amazing rapport and friendships with the Year 6 students and they are really looking forward to seeing them in the playground next year!

Our P-Tech journey will be starting in Week 6 with a trip to IMB in Sydney. The students and staff are looking forward to starting this amazing journey and exploring all of the possibilities it offers.

Keep up the good work Year 9 !

Year 11

We’ve had an incredibly busy start to Term 4, as the year group has transitioned into the official commencement of their HSC courses. The first couple of weeks were filled with activities to assist students to pick the best study path for them, such as individual interviews with staff and the HSC information evening with parents. This has led to some class and course changes, which they are settling into well. Reports will be sent home soon to provide further information on how they are going in their courses – it was a joy to read the many positive, glowing comments they contain!

This term we also had an incredible three days at the Life Ready camp, where they engaged in important life education classes. They also challenged themselves on the high ropes, flying fox, abseiling, giant swing, rock climbing and archery, as well as attempting to beat their teachers at the commando and games nights.

Most importantly, the group were exceptional in their representation of themselves and our school and were described by the camp staff as being one of the friendliest, inclusive, fun and respectful groups they’ve ever had. Well done, Year 11!

Recognition must also go to Adrian Crnalic, who was selected to be part of the 2019 RSL Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge. He spent the school holidays trekking the Kokoda track with a group of students from across NSW. Congratulations on this incredible achievement, Adrian!

Students are encouraged to now focus on this first term of HSC content and to take advantage of programs offered to support them through the busy times ahead, such as engaging in the teacher mentor program. This is the time to develop strong study habits to help through the HSC.
