Senior Dominican Cup Debating Winners

 Summer Co-Curricular

Training sessions for all Term 4 Summer Co-Curricular will commence in Week 1, Term 4. Games will also commence in Week 1 with Volleyball and Water Polo on Friday after school and Badminton, Cricket and Tennis on Saturday. It is an expectation that students who participated in a Summer sport during Term 1 continue to play that same sport in Term 4. Training schedule for Term 4 is attached. Fixtures are still being finalised and will be made available once complete. Information is accessible via SEQTA in the Co-Curricular portal.

 

Dominican Cup Debating Competition

The annual Dominican Debating Competition between Blackfriars and St Dominic's was held on Wednesday 18 September at Blackfriars. The teams competed for the following cups:

  • The Caleruega Cup for Juniors Years 6 – 8.
  • The Father John Neill Cup for Intermediate Years 9 and 10.  
  • The Sister Jillian Havey Cup for Seniors Years 11 and 12.

The Junior team (Years 6 – 8) had a prepared topic which was released a couple days before the debate. The topic of the debate was “After school sport should be compulsory". Blackfriars were the negative team. Well done to Daniel Song, Charlie Morkunas and Nathan Sewart. Thank you to Danny Nguyen for being Chairperson for the debate. Blackfriars lost The Caleruega Cup.

 

The Intermediate team (Years 9 and 10) debated the topic “That we should ban photoshopping of people in print media”. Blackfriars were the affirmative team. It was a close debate with strong points argued and rebutted from both sides. Thank you to Brian Tran for being Chairperson for the debate. Congratulations to Brandon Truong, Jason Dinh and Joseph Snelling on winning the Father John Neill Cup.

 

The Senior team (Years 11 and 12) debated the topic “That it is appropriate for students to strike”. Blackfriars were the negative. It was another very close debate with both sides arguing their points intensely. Thank you to Brandon Truong for being Chairperson for the debate. Congratulations to Trung Nguyen, Frank Snelling and Amir Nazari on winning the Sister Jillian Havey Cup.

 

Thank you to everyone who contributed to Dominican Cup Debating:

  • Bob Becker, Margaret Snelling and Dina Hasaneen for all their work in helping the boys prepare for their debates
  • Canteen Staff (Veronica Harkins and Frances Markota) and Anastasia Lambis for assisting with the catering and set up
  • All the parents and staff of Blackfriars and St Dominic’s that attended to watch and listen to the students of both schools speak.

First XI Soccer vs BOSA FC

The annual Tony Moss Memorial Game between Blackfriars First XI Soccer team and Blackfriars Old Scholars Association Football Club (BOSA FC) was held on Monday 16th September at Charles Cane Reserve. In a competitive match, BOSA FC defeated Blackfriars 4 – 2. The goal scorers for Blackfriars were Lucas D’Argenio and Luis Lawrie-Lattanzio. Congratulations to Darcy Dominic who was awarded best on ground. Thank you to BOSA FC for hosting the event and providing food and drinks after the game. Thank you also to Bruno Giovanniello, Ralph Armiento and all involved for their organisation and overall success of the event.

 

 

First XI Soccer Presentations

First XI Soccer Presentations were held on Wednesday 25 September. Thank you to everyone who assisted the team throughout the season – Robert Matosevic (Coach), Carlo Armiento (Assistant Coach) and Ernie Luongo (Manager).
