Happy Diwali
Today our 1/2 classes celebrated the Indian festival of Diwali.
We are very grateful to Naureen and Hetal for sharing their knowledge of this festival with us. We enjoyed rangoli design colouring and got to eat some delicious Indian snacks, brought by our students Reet P., Nabhya K., Nishka L. and Naviyaa G.
Six facts about Diwali:
- Diwali is an important religious festival originating in India.
- Diwali takes place annually and lasts for five days, marking the start of the Hindu New Year.
- The word Diwali means “row of lights” in Sanskrit. During this festival, people decorate their homes with lights and oil lamps, called diyas.
- For many people, Diwali honours the Hindu goddess of wealth, Lakshmi. The lights and lamps are said to help Lakshmi find her way into peoples’ homes, bringing prosperity in the year to come!
- Rangoli is a popular Diwali tradition –– beautiful patterns made using colourful powders and flowers. People draw rangoli on the floor by the entrance of their homes to welcome the gods and bring good luck!
- But it’s not just about lights and legends –– Diwali is a time to have fun with friends and family! People exchange gifts and sweets, enjoy delicious feasts, watch firework displays and wear new clothes. It’s a time to clean and decorate your home, too.

Cake Stall Deliveries
We’re asking you to bake a treat and deliver it to school on Friday, 9th November:
… between 8:45am and 4:00pm to the Staff Room
… from 4:30pm to the Cake Stall
Here’s what we know about running a GREAT Cake Stall:
- SIMPLE items sell best: Chocolate Crackles, Honey Joys, Yum Yum Balls, Anzac Biscuits, Rocky Road, Lemon Slice, etc
- GLUTEN FREE cakes/slice/biscuits are very popular
- CUP CAKES with simple decorations - something on top (like a marshmallow) to prevent the plastic cover sticking to the icing
- LOAF cakes or MEDIUM cakes - once again, with something on top (e.g coconut flakes) to stop the cover sticking to the icing
- JAMS and PRESERVES are super popular
- If it LOOKS GOOD it will sell!
Outside the office you can NOW collect your cake boxes, clear bags, cake bases and ingredients labels.
- All goods must have clear labels and ingredients list.
- NO cream or jelly and NO items that require refrigeration.
- Jams/preserves can be delivered to the office any time from now.
