Year 4 Writing

During our Daily 5 ‘Work on Writing’ sessions, the Year 4 students were asked to add their text to a picture story book with no words. Daisy D (4B) wrote an impressive piece that we’d like to share.

Wind. Its silence makes it loud. Its disappearance makes it seen. It blows. It blows triumphantly, flapping in my face, pushing, like an invisible body has been thrusting it at me. I drift across the sky like a wounded bird setting of for flight. My tattered, scarlet hat slips of my head, gone. An outstretched hand reaches for it, the winds chasing me now, like large curling fingers ready to snatch me.

It starts getting hasty, I soar into the sky, higher than high, the damp clouds are a steely grey, resting under my head, and the sky is dark, like a spillage of the blackest ink.

My hats at my fingertips, I can feel the roughness of the rim, but wind. Wind pushes me down, near the milk-white waves, at the cold, grainy sand. I stumble near a cargo crate, metal and rusted. My hands clawing the crate and my eyes clouded by darkness, I pull myself to my feet. My hat. I move my hands in sand, swerving them round and round to try and find the woolly, itchy feeling, my hands only find the smooth but crumbly sand. I feel everywhere, inside the light, cold waves, on smooth beach, inside all the cargo crates, on the jagged rocks, and inside the grassy landscape that the wooden stairs take me to. Maybe I don’t need a hat.

I amble away, the sand, slipping through my toes, then it comes. A flash of red. Splashing my eyes with colour. I feel the air, and find it. Clasped between my fingers is the coarse, uneven feeling of a hat. My hat. I slump it on my head and in the quietest voice imaginable I whisper ‘Again.’ Daisy D (4B)

Year 5 Robotics LEGO League Competition

Well done to our two Year 5 Robotics teams for a stellar day at the FIRST LEGO League (FFL) tournament held last Sunday (10 November) at Glendal Primary School. The teams had a great go at attempting the robotics challenges, did a presentation on solving a city problem, explained their robot design, and demonstrated FLL core values. Whilst one team won the Judges Award, both teams scored many points with their challenges. They all should be very proud of themselves!
