Principal's Report

"Children want the same things we want. To laugh, to be challenged, to be entertained, and delighted.” ― Dr. Seuss

There are many things we do here at Beaumaris North to facilitate a successful start to school, and I am pleased to say that the Preps have all reached their 100th day which was celebrated last week.

It is mind blowing to think what our Prep students will have learned by the time they reach Year 6, particularly in the area of technology. As a Microsoft School, we have students using OneNote to communicate with teachers, Microsoft Forms to survey them (as seen in the recent Year 6 Exhibition) and even a Year 5 Robotics Team who have entered the First Lego League, to name a few.

Whilst we embrace technology here at Beaumaris North, it has a time and place. I encourage all students to take the challenge, set by a Caulfield South Primary School student, on the ‘Stuff for Kids’ page of this newsletter.

BNPS Leadership Team

I would like to thank my amazing Leadership Team (Mat Doran-Brown, Grant Rounsley, Brent Plowright, Debbie Murnane and Jo Taylor), for stepping up in Moira and Robyn's absence during Semester One. They have done a truly magnificent job and I am very grateful for their ongoing support.

We implement a true distributive leadership model in every aspect of our school management, and it is lovely to have my Assistant Principals, Moira and Robyn, back on deck.

BNPS Gala - 24 August

The biggest night on the BNPS social calendar is almost here and once again I would sincerely like to thank Julie Dunlevie and her team for their tireless efforts.

If you haven't bought your tickets yet, please do so ASAP via Qkr - I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

Netball Championships

I had the pleasure of attending the Netball Victoria Schools Championships on Monday (5 August). This is the first year we have entered a team (Year 6) and I was very proud of the way the girls conducted themselves. I would sincerely like to thank Bridget and Tim Stickland for their efforts in coordinating this wonderful opportunity for the girls.

Congratulations also, to the amazing Year 6 Mixed Netball team who are now progressing to the State Championships - this is a huge achievement! Well done Coach Hall!

Please see the 'PE & Sports News' page of this newsletter for full reports.

Open Classrooms

Thank you to those who were able to come along to our 'Open Classrooms' on Tuesday (6 August). Students take great delight in having their parents actively engaged and genuinely interested in their learning.

Our final 'Open Classroom' opportunity for 2019 will be held on Thursday 31 October (9.10 - 9.50am).

Lunch Clubs

Thank you to the staff who have volunteered to give up their lunchtimes again this term to conduct a variety of fun and valuable experiences for our students.

It's lovely to see friendships blossom between children who find a common interest, and who they may not otherwise have met. Bringing students together from all year levels also supports buddy friendships and social groups.

School Ground Works

The exterior windows of the main building are being repainted along with some repairs to the rotten frames. Roof maintenance of this building is also underway.

The snake ladder on the asphalt outside the Prep rooms has been repainted and looks very vibrant!

Looking Ahead...

As advised on Compass yesterday, due to the current weather predictions for tomorrow (9 August), we have decided to postpone the Year 3 – 6 House Athletics Carnival. A new date will be posted on Compass once confirmed.

In closing, I would like to share with you, some lovely quotes that resonated with our Year 6 students in recognition of  2019 Principal's Day.

Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.

Be grateful for small things, big things, and everything in between.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.
