Pass the Baton

World Eating Disorders Day

Rachael Angus, Vice-President of our School Council, passing the baton to Linda Brown

The purpose is to raise awareness of eating disorders. You will find them on the staff room tables. The race is on for families to save loved ones with eating disorders - it is not a sprint - it is a marathon.

As part of World Eating Disorders day - Batons with information to educate the public were sent off around the world. MGSC was happy to receive a baton and will be passing it on once it has made its way through the school.  Here are a few of the important facts that we all should know when it comes to Eating Disorders

  • Eating Disorders are serious biological brain disorders not choices.
  • They can be life threatening and have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness.
  • Eating disorders do not discriminate. Anyone can be affected.  People can look healthy and be extremely ill.
  • Full recovery is possible.
  • Families play a pivotal role in early detection and effective treatment.

The batons will remain at MGSC before being passed on to the next community.
