Principal's Report

Shepparton Education Plan:
Shepparton Education Plan Update
The remainder of the year will be exceptionally busy for our staff as we move towards Greater Shepparton College (interim name). Each Wednesday, our staff meeting time has been dedicated to curriculum development with staff from the 4 schools coming together on a fortnightly rotation to ensure that our curriculum for 2020 is ready to go on day 1. Staff have been working on the curriculum in their current school on the alternative Wednesdays, to ensure that the time with the 4 schools together is spent in a highly productive manner.
Hopefully you are aware of the recent announcement regarding the leadership of the 3 campuses for 2020. I will be the campus Principal at Mooroopna, Ken Murray at the Wanganui campus and John Sciacca at the McGuire campus. Assistant Principals and Leading Teachers at the three campuses will be announced as the positions are finalised.
The Minister for Education James Merlino visited Shepparton recently and announced free bus travel for all students for the duration of the transition period which was very good news for those who were uncertain what was going to happen.
A transition program is in place to help all students become familiar with their likely campus next year. We have had students visiting both Wanganui Park and McGuire College and have visits from students of Shepparton High School, McGuire College and Wanganui Park SC to see what we have to offer at MSC. This will continue throughout the year to ensure that the transitions are as smooth as possible.
Information nights for senior students have been conducted earlier this week and there will be more to follow in the next few weeks as we move towards the subject selection process for our senior students.
At MSC, it is business as usual, as the students in our care this year deserve all that we can offer.
Queensland Tour
Our intrepid musicians recently returned from their Queensland music tour which was highly successful, as is the norm under the care and organisation of Lindy Tennant. A big thank you to the staff and parents who assisted on the tour for their untiring efforts to give our musicians the opportunity to expand their musical performance skill. I received a letter of congratulations from a member of the public who encountered the group in the accommodation where our musicians were staying. The letter expressed how impressive our students were both musically and also as great ambassadors for our school in all their interactions.

Transition
Across all four schools there has been a focus on beginning the important process of transition. Eight different Transition teams, with each school represented, have designed tours and activities to address some of the concerns of those students moving to new campuses in 2020. Last week there were three successful sessions held at McGuire, Mooroopna and Wanganui for students with disabilities. Next week will see both Wanganui Park and Mooroopna host students from McGuire, Mooroopna and Shepparton High. These visits include guided tours of the new campus, to become familiar with the physical environment, as well as activities that assist in the formation of new friendships.
