Term 1 Events

2018 has already been a huge year for the South Oakleigh College community. Several events—the year 7 BBQ and Cultural event held late last term—have enabled the wider community to experience some of the wonderful things done at the College.

CAD Walkathon

On the last day of Term 1 pupils participated in the Community Action Day Walkathon. On a sunny Autumn morning our students walked around Karkarook Park twice before returning to the College for a sausage sizzle and outdoor games.

Monash Childrens Hospital

On Thursday May 23 College Captains Elizabeth Demosthenous, Lachlan Wilkin, House Leader Ms Stav Kansas, Ms Helen Koziaris and myself, visited the Monash Children’s Hospital to present a cheque for $10,000 which was raised as part of our Community Action Day Walkathon.

The College community is to be congratulated for raising this outstanding amount. The money will be used to buy educational resources for the school  housed within the hospital.  All members of the hospital were extremely grateful for the donation.

We are enormously proud of our achievement. Well done South Oakleigh!

Open Night

In the final week of Term 1 South Oakleigh held its Open Night, an evening to showcase the plethora of innovative programs we provide our students.

A huge number of people crammed into the Theatre to listen to our Principal and two Year 7 students give an insight into College life.

Following speeches visitors were given a guided tour of the College by students and saw many of our pupils in action across a variety of activities: experimenting in the science labs, rehearsing our upcoming production, creating of art activities or cooking up a storm in our food room. Another great night for our school.

Model United Nations Assembly

On the first weekend of May two Year 11 students, Jelaica Chapman and Andrew Leap, journeyed to State Parliament where they partook in the Model United Nations Assembly. Jelaica and Andrew represented Mexico and, over the two days, impressed their peers and observers with their knowledge of the different resolutions discussed.

They found the event stimulating and thoroughly rewarding.

We thank the Rotary Club of Huntingdale for providing this opportunity to our students.
