Important Information:

Week 3 and 4

Phase 1 - students returning to Guyra Central School

Week 3 Term 2

From Monday, Week 3, Term 2 (11th May, 2020) students at Guyra Central School will begin returning to school gradually 1 day per week (Year 11 and Year 12 and Kindergarten 4 days per week) as a part of the NSW Department of Education’s “Managed Return to School” Guidelines.

This strategy supports the continuity of education for students and increases face-to-face teaching. Students will be attending school different days to keep with the social distancing regulations. When students are not at school they will still be supported with online learning or hard copies.

Expectations to ensure health and safety of all students and staff

Safety is a priority during the COVID 19 pandemic. Students will be expected to behave in a responsible way, which recognises the importance of protecting the health of themselves, their peers, and staff, who are at higher risk of COVID 19. A few teachers will be working from home due to higher levels of vulnerability to COVID 19.

Students will be expected to:

  • Stay home when unwell. Parents must not send students to school if they are feeling unwell. If a student is unwell during the school day, they will not be able to remain in sick bay. Parents will be expected to collect unwell students from school.
  • Assist in keeping classroom desks and school equipment clean as directed by the teacher
  • Engage in regular hand-washing, especially before eating during breaks. Hand sanitisation will be provided to all attending students and staff at the commencement of each school day and at designated times throughout the day
  • Not share drinks or food – bring a water bottle as water bubblers will be out of action and only bottle refill stations operating
  • Remain 1.5 m apart from other students wherever possible
  • Maintain social distancing in corridors and when queuing – floor markings outside classrooms and in canteen lines will be created to assist
  • Bring all their own equipment including pens, calculators, BYOD with charger, glue and anything else needed as there will be NO sharing amongst students or provided by staff
  • Cough or sneeze into their elbows if necessary to avoid spreading infection. Avoid touching face.
  • Use soap, sanitisers and other health items in a responsible manner – ideal to bring own sanitiser
  • Negotiated ball games will be undertaken under strict rules during break times due to infection risk. Staff will work with students to negotiate what is possible.
  • Come directly to school each morning, and after school go directly home – no going via the local shops or park
  • If we all adhere to these guidelines we can be confident in this phased return to school. In addition, we have hand sanitisers available to all students and staff regularly throughout the school day. Furthermore, additional cleaning is being undertaken with special attention to cleaning of desks, doorknobs, bathrooms and other surfaces.
  • Students who do not adhere to these health and safety requirements will be reminded of our expectations and the school discipline procedures will be implemented.

Transport

School buses will be running at normal times before and after school.

For students that live a distance from the school parents are encouraged to either pick up their child (please do not enter the school grounds) or assist them to work out public transport. Students should NOT loiter in the local area but go directly home.

The Homework Centre

The Homework Centre will return as per normal from Week 3 on Monday and Thursday 3:30 – 5:30 in the Library. All students are welcome – not just those who are scheduled to be at school on those days.

What do I need to bring?

If you have a personal device or have borrowed a laptop from the school , please make sure you bring it to school with its charger as we do not have any spare devices or chargers currently available. If you don’t have a device, you will need to bring your books, pens and physical work package. Students are also encouraged to bring their own hand sanitiser if some is available.

Uniform

Students are expected to wear their full school uniform on the days they attend.

What happens if my family decide it is best for me to stay home?

That’s fine. As long as you are engaging in online work  or physical work packages, you will be marked as flexible attendance (not absent). Contact the front office to let us know.

When will school return to normal?

We’re not sure how long Phase 1 will continue for, but we will let you know as soon as we can! We are forward planning in preparation for the next phase or to be moved back into Phase 0.  Please refer to NSW Department of Education 'Managing Return to School' guidelines below.
