Acting Principal's Report

From Carol's desk....

Grandparents and Special Friends day

What a wonderful event for all our Prep-related visitors to the school yesterday.  Our Preps took great pride in showing their special visitors around their school and then sharing some lunch with them. This is a wonderful event and we love bringing the school community in to see the great things happening. The students did an activity with their visitors and then got their passports signed as they took them to different places in the school.

Retirement of Deb Letson

Deb Letson will be retiring at the end of this term. Deb has worked at Croydon Hills Primary School since the beginning of 1995, has made significant contributions to our school and worked in many varied capacities.

Deb has taught across all year levels, working as a Team Leader in both Prep and the Senior School.  She has been an amazing mentor to other teachers, sharing her vast curriculum knowledge to support her colleagues and her care and compassion have endeared her to all her students in classes over the years.

Deb’s tremendous knowledge of literacy has made her an asset to the literacy support program and her expertise and experience, both in the classroom and in this area, will be greatly missed.

...and Goodbye to Amana Temple

Amana is leaving us tomorrow to pursue an exciting new chapter in her life - she is expecting her first baby in a few weeks.  In her relatively short time at CHPS, Amana has made her mark on our Performing Arts curriculum through class lessons, Choir, the Rock Band, State Schools Spectacular, Carols On The Oval and instrumental music lessons (now run by CHAMP and her brother, David).   We wish her and husband, Nick all the joys of parenthood and look forward to welcoming her back in the future.

Parking around the school

Parking and traffic controls around schools play an important part in keeping children safe.  While we understand that it can be frustrating trying to find a park close to the school, particularly for 3.30pm pick-up, it is vital for both child safety and consideration for our neighbours that road rules are observed.

Maroondah Council reminds all parents to observe the following traffic control laws, which will be enforced by parking officers who will be visiting our area soon.

These controls ensure the crossing supervisor has a clear field of vision in all directions and can identify possible hazardous traffic conditions.

Some of the parking controls include:

  • No stopping within 20m on the approach side of a crossing.
  • No stopping within 10m on the departure side of a school crossing.
  • No stopping within 10m of an intersection (unless signs say you can).

CHAPS Trivia Night

A hard copy of the Ticket Order Form for this year's major CHAPS fundraiser, the Trivia Night & Silent Auction, should be in your child's bag today.  This should be a great social night and all funds raised will be used to refurbish the Senior Playground.

Our Parents' Association, CHAPS, has been a huge contributor to funds which have created improvements to our school environment over many years, including all playgrounds, the shade umbrellas in the courtyard, central galleries in the junior and middle blocks, the Pavilion, the Asian Garden and improvements to the PAC.  Our school would not look and feel as it does without CHAPS fundraising.  Over the years we have been blessed with many dedicated and hardworking parents and, above all, CHAPS has always been a fun and social way for parents to be part of the school community and contribute to their children's primary learning experience.

I would encourage all parents to join in the fun of the Trivia Night on Saturday, May 25th.  Organise a table or come alone and make new friends - simply return your completed Order Form with payment to the Office.
