Principal's Report
Welcome Back to our regular newsletter....
It’s hard to know where to start - what a term. I think the term has challenged us in so many ways, yet we’ve learned what we can do if we work together. I’m so grateful to have a community of parents, carers, staff and students who are committed to the education of our fabulous young people at Cobram Secondary College. I was constantly impressed by the resilience, perseverance and dedication of everyone!
We have so much to be grateful for. Our school facilities have been undergoing a transformation while you’ve all been away. I was so excited to welcome the year 7s and 8’s into their purpose-built learning centre and I’m proud to report they’re already taking on the responsibility of looking after their new centre – tidying each lunchtime and displaying their work.
Our school captains have been involved in the selection of the furniture which will go into the newly built VCE Centre. We’re due to move into the new Admin/VCE/Home Eco and Canteen building at the start of term 3!
Staffing changes
Sadly, Jane Grenfell has taken leave to focus on fighting a health battle. We expect to see her back next year.
We welcome Suzanne Couchman, who comes to us from the Greater Shepparton Secondary College. Suzanne holds a Master of Education and has a wealth of experience as a Year level leader, Literacy Coach and Learning Specialist. Suzanne will teach Maths, Humanities and English and will be the year 7&8 Year Level Leader at Cobram Secondary College, commencing in term 3.
Reports
Our upcoming semester reports will look different. We wanted to capture and celebrate the work the students did at home supported by the outstanding efforts of carers/parents. We know that not all learning is academic, therefore we asked students to complete a self-reflection when they returned to school. We also gave parents the opportunity to provide formal feedback to their child, which will also be included on the report.
Years 7-10, reports include: Term 1 Assessment tasks. For Term two - teachers will be providing a brief comment that reflects the efforts, skills and knowledge demonstrated during the time of remote learning, rather than A-E grades.
VCE - Because of the shifting timelines – the report will reflect the student progress at this point in time. Students will receive a full detailed report demonstrating all their achievements at the end of the year.
VCAL reports will be project-based.
