Teaching and Learning News

Celebrating and sharing learning are key components of both student and school success.
They are a means of giving and receiving feedback which according to the work of John Hattie and Visible Learning, has an effect size of .64 on student progress.
This effect size means feedback can be said to have a 'much greater than average influence' on student achievement. (A 0.4 effect size is the hinge point at which an initiative can be said to be having a 'greater than average influence' on achievement).
Our staff and students are looking forward to receiving your feedback at our 2019 Art Show.
It will be a visual delight and the culmination of 6 months of planning and creating, making and doing.
For one night only you can wander between exhibitions where the overall theme is Turn Back Time.
Doors to the gallery (AKA school hall) will open at 5:30pm on Thursday 12th September with the official opening taking place at 6pm. The gallery closes at 7:30pm.
Make sure you bring a set of head/earphones and your smart phone/device to access QR codes and see the stories of making the art works from the artists themselves.
Be sure to visit the feedback wall before you leave and provide some feedback to the talented artists and their teachers.
At St Martin’s we are committed to providing opportunities for young people to explore their creativity.
Art fosters risk-taking and exploration. It plays a critical role in assisting children to not only understand their world, but express this knowing, as they make sense of their experiences.
The Arts allow them to communicate their thinking and feelings in multiple ways and encourages children to be active participants.
We know this will enhance their future career prospects and better prepare them for tomorrow's workforce.
According to the World Economic Forum’s The Future of Jobs Report, ‘creativity’ is one of the top three skills required to thrive behind complex problem solving and critical thinking.

Here’s the answers for those who are still wondering.
Book Club - ONLINE ORDERS ONLY
It is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school safe and sound and the books will be delivered to class. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/LOOP or using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
Each order helps earn free books and teaching materials for our school, however there is never any obligation to order.
If you wish to purchase, please ensure to order online by Friday 6th September 2019.
For every Bookclub order, our school earns 20% in Rewards, which we can use to purchase new books and resources. Thanks to all those families who order from Bookclub each month.
Learning Power Award Recipients
We continue to celebrate SMDP learners who demonstrate the characteristics and behaviours of our learning dispositions or learning powers: motivated, resilient, collaborative, curious, creative and reflective learners.
Congratulations to these learners who received awards at our whole school assembly.
Love your learning!
