Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Families and Community members,
Term 1 Is Done!
At the end of each term we always look back and reflect on everything we have achieved and experienced, and again this term it is quite amazing to see!
We started our year welcoming a large number of new students, families and staff to our school community and in fact our student enrolment doubled in size from 175 on our first year to nearly 350 in 2019. At the beginning of 2018 we had about 20 staff which has now grown to 50!
We have introduced many new programs, conducted our first camp and just generally continuously built on the foundations we established in 2019 (just to summarise briefly...).
As we head into the school holiday period, I would like to thank you all (our wonderful school community), for your ongoing support and 'commitment' to ensuring our students have a great school where they are able to grow, learn and achieve every day.

Healthy Breakfast - Grade 1-2
On Wednesday morning the Grade 1/2's used their knowledge from their inquiry unit about how we keep our bodies happy and healthy to plan and eat a healthy breakfast at school.
Students were given a choice from fruit, toast, cereal, pancakes, juice, milk and water for the breakfast. They were also lucky enough to be supported by some of our fabulous year 7-9 students who not only cooked and served them toast and pancakes, they also willingly supported the teachers in cleaning up at the end. It was lovely to see students working together to butter their toast and try new foods they may not have tried in the past.
Teachers from both Southside and Winkipop were extremely impressed with the way in which the students conducted themselves, in particular the way in which they used their beautiful manners without the need to be prompted.
We hope events like this create lasting memories and will help students to apply their knowledge to a real world context and enable them to begin to make more informed choices about what they buy and eat as they become more independent.
Camp Wyuna - Grade 3-4
Please come in to the office to see our wonderful display of camp photos on the entry wall.
Left over camp gear - if any families are missing towels, clothes or other items left behind at camp, these can be collected from the school lost property.

The Leadership Team and Prep teachers spoke about the curriculum and outlined what the Prep year looks like. The evening ended with a tour of our wonderful school and feedback was extremely positive from all who attended.

House Cross Country - 4/4/19
On Thursday all students at school competed in the House Cross Country event. It was amazing to see everyone dressed up supporting their houses and to see them giving it their all throughout the run.
We were super lucky to have such amazing weather for the event and it was brilliant to see so many families from the ACS community turn up to cheer on the students. A special thank you to all the parents that went to so much effort in helping dress the children (and themselves!) up to support their houses.
A special thank you to Kerry and Gavin Harris, Nadia Crawley, Narelle Dobie and Maria Ainscough for marshalling the course. There were also other parents that helped out when they saw a need in certain areas of the course. These days cannot be a success without your input. A huge thank you to Janelle Levy for again manning the finish line to help collect all the scores and names of children that will be heading to the District Cross Country.
To all the teachers that gave up their time to help marshal the course, thank you. We cannot run these events without your support and time and it is greatly appreciated. To all the other staff that helped with the children, dressed up and got into the spirit of the event, again thank you. Your dedication to the children here at ACS is second to none and it helps provide a wonderful atmosphere for all students.
One last huge thank you to Woolworths Warralily. They were generous enough to show their support once again by supplying fruit for all of our students . Support from local businesses like Woolworths helps make our sports days such a great success.
Most importantly - well done to all the students on the effort you put in throughout the day. To see you run, encourage and support each other make me extremely proud to be a part of Armstrong Creek School. It is you that make the day such a huge success.
CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS
PACC Family Disco
A wonderful turnout of 114 families saw plenty of funky moves on the dance floor for our first ever PACC Family Disco! A total of $379 was raised by selling popcorn and icy poles on the night and this + the entry fees per family will go towards purchasing the Mother's Day Stall gift items.
A big Thank You to the parents who organised and helped with the set up and pack up for this event. Special thanks to Marcel Ernstzen for donating his equipment and DJ skills to play everyone's favourite tunes on the night.
Lake Dewar Year 7-9
Last Friday the Secondary School students participated in The Amazing Race Challenge at Lake Dewar YMCA day camp. Every student had the opportunity to participate in Archery, the Giant See Saw, the Tarzan rope challenge, group ball game challenges and the Flying Fox. Most of the students said that the Flying Fox was their favourite activity. They were suspended approximately 50 metres above the ground and flew 300 metres through the air. Everyone had a fun and challenging day but the most important skill that shone through for all of our students was the level of teamwork, support and encouragement they gave each other. All of our students displayed our school values of care, collaboration and commitment throughout the day and should be commended on their level of accomplishment and positivity.
