Foundation - 100 Days of School
On Friday 4 August, our Foundation students celebrated their 100th day of school. We started the day off dressed as 100 year olds and showed our parents how we can count to 100. We then met our parents in the Gym and sang them our song that we have been practising for weeks. Lots of photos were taken and we were so happy to show our parents our achievement. Our buddies then met us in our classroom and they gave us a card and made a paper crown for us. We then went on a tour of the school to show everyone else our awesome costumes. We had a wonderful day!

The most read books by Jells Park PS students this year have been “Do Not Open This Book” by Andy Lee, “Matilda” by Roald Dahl and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” by JK Rowling.
What were some of the favourite books of the Foundation and Level 1 staff when they were growing up?
Miss Newton loved “Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy” by Lynley Dodd.
Ms Mayer loved “Pookins” by Helen Lester.
Mr Meredith fondly remembers Beano comics.
Mrs Koper loved all Hans Christen Anderson stories like “The Princess and the Pea”.
“Charlotte’s Web” by EB White is a favourite book for Ms Miritis.
Mrs Clow loved “Stig of the Dump” by Clive King, “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgsen Burnett and “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” by CS Lewis. She also loved “Mr Twiddle” and “Amelia Jane” both by Enid Blyton.
Mrs Dodd fondly recalls “Winnie the Pooh” by AA Milne, “Bimbo and Topsy” by Enid Blyton and “Paddington at the Seaside” by Michael Bond.
Mr K remembers “The Paper Bag Princess” because he thought it was cool when Elizabeth told the prince to get lost because he was so rude and mean.
He also remembers pouring over “The 11th Hour” to solve its mystery and being impressed with the intricacy of the book.
Later it was “Fighting Fantasy” books filled with Dungeons and Dragons type creatures in which you could choose your own adventures that were the favourites.
However, Mr K’s all time favourite is “Alice and Wonderland” with its many layers of complexity and depth.

Responsible Pet Ownership
The Foundation students are currently busy learning about how to stay safe this term. On Monday 31 July, the students had an opportunity to welcome Morgan the Great Dane to the classrooms. We learned procedures when meeting dogs for the very first time and even got to practise them with Morgan. It was an exciting morning and we look forward to taking these new skills out into the everyday world.
Level 6 - Blood Experiment
Blood is one of the most important parts of the human body. As it contains a lot of smaller cells/parts that protect every part of our body and lives. In Level 6 we had a ‘hands on’ STEM project where we got to make our own version of blood. The red colour of blood comes from the huge number of Red Blood Cells, which was represented by red food colouring, water and Cheerios in our project. RBC’s last about 120 days in the body and are produced in the bone marrow. The White Blood Cells were represented by mini marshmallows and are the cells of the immune system which helps to fight disease and infection. There is approximately 1 WBC for every 600 RBC’s. The Plasma is the liquid portion of blood and was represented by oil in our project. It makes up 55% of blood volume and its main purpose is to transport the other blood materials around the body. The Platelets are the smallest of all the cells and assist with clotting. These would be represented by rice in our project.
Blood is an important part of the human body that is very important as there are many parts of it that protect the body and help you do everyday activities. It is pumped out to the body from the heart by the arteries and returns from the body to the heart via the veins.
