Junior Hoop Time Tournament
On Tuesday 1 August 2017, Jells Park Primary school competed in the Junior Hoop Time tournament at Dandenong Basketball Centre. Five teams were entered into the competition across the three Divisions, including one All-Star Boys teams, three Future Stars teams (mixed gender), and one Rookies team (mixed gender). The teams all had success on the day all taking out wins, with the All Star Boys team (coached by the accomplished Louise Masci and Fiona Lowry) and the Jells Park Panthers (coached by the masterful Fiona Rankin) both making it through to their respective finals undefeated. Unfortunately, neither team managed to win their finals, not for lack of effort or determination, as both teams fought hard on what was a great occasion.
New students were introduced to playing Basketball in a more formal, competitive environment and judging by the depth of talent across Level 3 and 4, Jells Park will have a bright future in years to come.
Thanks again to all the parents who came down and helped coach, score and support, helping to make the day such a success.
Victorian State Netball Championships
On Thursday 3 August, 18 Level 5 and 6 boys went to compete in the Victorian State Netball Championships. The competition was very tough, with many experienced boys teams playing and knowing their stuff. Team Red won one game although that does not represent how close they came to winning many others. Team Blue also won one game and fought hard, losing the others by close margins. It was a great day with all students representing Jells Park P.S with fantastic attitudes, behaviour and never give up attitudes. Well done boys!
Swimming Program: Foundation - Level 2
Permission letters for the Foundation - Level 1 & 2 Swimming program were sent home on Monday. The students will undertake a nine day program from Monday 11 September to Thursday 21 September, having a 40 minute lesson daily at the Monash Aquatic Recreation Centre (MARC) along Waverley Road. We would encourage all students to participate as students will be learning valuable water safety skills as well as having swimming instruction. If you do not want your child to participate please indicate that when returning the form. We will need full payment and level forms returned to the office by Friday August 25. The notice can also be found on the School Website. Please come and have a chat with me if you have any further questions on this valuable school program.

Eastern Metropolitan Region Football Championships
Last week the Jells Park footy team travelled to Blackburn to play in the Eastern Metropolitan Region championships which is the step before State finals. We played 3 games against other divisional champions.
In our first game we had a fast start against St Annes and kicked the first 3 goals. At ¾ time scores were tight and we trailed by only 3 points however they ran over the top of us and won 48-26.
Our second was against St Peter Julians and we dominated around the ground throughout the match but struggled with our goal conversion which kept them in the game. Unfortunately 2 late goals to them in the last quarter whilst we continued to kick points saw them run out winners by 4 points. We kicked 1 goal 10 to their 3 goals 2 and had 5 more scoring shots.
Our final game was against Vermont and after the disappointment of the 2nd game we didn’t want to leave without a win. It was our strongest team performance of the day and we ran out comfortable winners 47 to 24.
We missed out on the finals, but had a great day. Thanks to all our parent supporters and encouragers. Well done to all 25 players who represented us throughout the competitions.
