School Spectacular

Dance

Recently 19 Dance students participated in the 2018 Schools Spectacular – "The Greatest".  After months of preparation and rehearsals our students took the stage with students from across the state to showcase Public Education at its best.

Featured Dancer Nicola Carter performed in the:

  • Opening “The Greatest Show”
  • Segment 2 – “Sweet Dreams”
  • Segment 11 – "Nothing Holding Me Back"

State Dance Ensemble Members Erika Sullivan and Millie Casey performed in “Bollywood”

State Aboriginal Ensemble members Lowanna Murray, Bobby Jeffries and Ryan Carroll performed in “Murryuna”

16 combined dancers from Cowra High School performed in “Great Aussie Exports” along with 500 other regional students.  Mrs Buckley choreographed this segment along with Kathryn Fisher and Joanne Gilmour-King.  Maisie Thompson, Brigette Healy, Bella Pangas, Zoe Budge, Amy Gruessing, Nashwa Bakini, Kate Rowston, Lucy Murray, Lillian Lawler, Mollie Thompson, Amelia Clements, Emma Clements, Keira Buckley, Jacqueline Long, Nicola Anslow, and Jemima Sullivan were the dancers.

It was wonderful to see 50 Cowra High Students and staff come along to watch the performance live and special thanks to Mrs Louise Rowston for organising the bus and social media that won the school the tickets to the show.

Thank you to the staff who gave up their time to make this all happen, Mrs Kerrie O’Dea, Mrs Prue Williams, Mrs Alison Buckley and Mrs Melinda Rowston.

A special thank you to all families for their support and fundraising efforts and to all the businesses in Cowra who donated to assist the students to get to Sydney to perform.

Drama

The Year 11 Drama students were lucky enough to be a part of the 2018 Schools Spectacular show “The Greatest”.  They were successful in their audition, being selected to be in the Combined Drama Ensemble with students from 13 schools across the state.  The piece they performed this year was about the role that Artificial Intelligence plays in our day to day life and within the education platform.  Unlike the dance items, the drama item is actually worked and developed by both the directors and the students.  Students workshop ideas which eventually are crafted into the final performance you will see on the TV.

Through the rehearsal process they created tribes fighting for survival and built a cyborg during the song “Bring Me To Life”.  We were part of the purple tribe as known as the Wolves.  They used props that came from NIDA and Opera Australia to help engage the audience and enabled each person to create a unique character.  Our girls had a great time at Schools Spec – performing on a world stage, meeting new friends and spending time in Sydney.  It was an experience they will never forget.

Aboriginal Ensemble

Three Cowra High students who were members of the prestigious NSW Public Schools Aboriginal Dance Company in partnership with Bangarra Youth Program took part in Schools Spectacular.  Lowanna Murray and Ryan Carroll performed with the company at the State Dance Festival in September.  Lowanna, Ryan and Bobby Jeffries had two solid weeks of rehearsals leading up to Schools Spectacular where they performed two dances for Schools Spectacular.

They were joined by 140 other dancers in the Aboriginal Ensemble.
