Airforce Cadets
On the 25th of November the Air Force Cadets of 310 and 337 Squadrons participated in a joint passing out parade and dining in night, taking part in traditions of passing the port and banter. Officer Commanding 3 Wing (NSW and ACT cadets), Wing Commander Paul Hughes, reviewed the parade and attended the dinner. The award recipients from O’Connor were, CDT Nicholas Andrews (Year 10) receiving 'Most Improved Cadet' (for his consistent dedication to achievement in subjects, drill performance and activity attendance), CCPL Laura Hooper (Year 11/12) received the “Bob Holloway Cadet of the Year” award (Laura also marched in the RAAF Ensign colours at the dinner). Tony Thorpe received the “Marksman of the Year” award as a result of achieving Dux of the Corporals Course in July and attending the National Rifle Competition in Melbourne in September, coming second with his team, achieving crossed rifles (for 85% or above accuracy in a competition shoot). Tony has also been actively holding the positions of Cadet Reference Group Representative and Cadet Unit Safety Coordinator of 337 SQN. Laura Hooper Year 11
STEM Day for Year 8
On Monday this week, all year 8 students participated in a STEM day, facilitated by Mr Chapman, Mr Fittler and Mr Hawthorne. Students made a solar car, a parabolic solar bbq, stomp rockets and competed in the marshmallow challenge.
They learnt about the power of the sun in the first session, the power of an air fuelled rocket before launch, and the engineering challenge of building a tower to raise a marshmallow as high a possible with spaghetti.
