YEAR NINE CAMP

YEAR NINE CAMP

On Wednesday 14th June seventy-one Year 9 students and four of their teachers headed off to Melbourne for a three day, two night Melbourne city experience. After an early departure from school at 7am, we later arrived at our accommodation in Franklin Street, Melbourne. Students and staff quickly headed off to the day’s activities which included two groups attending The Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance and Melbourne Gaol with two other groups catching public transport to Richmond and embarking upon an MCG tour and Clip and Climb experience. These activities were swapped between groups on the following Friday. Students all commented on how much they enjoyed all of the activities. Naturally, shopping and eating in the CBD were a major attraction for all students during their designated ‘free’ time.

Wednesday night was either spent watching a DVD in the accommodation’s theatre, chatting in rooms or playing board games.

On Thursday, students were involved in the “Arts Connect” program all day. Students had previously chosen which activities in which they wished to participate, including Circus Oz and Photography workshops in Fitzroy and making a Sci-Fi movie or TV Show at ACMI. The feedback back from all these activities was extremely positive.

On Thursday night, the students were given time to explore Melbourne Central from 6 – 10pm. After enjoying the various culinary delights on offer, some went to the movies, others played laser games and many shopped but regardless of what they spent their time involved in, they all appreciated the experience.

The school staff were extremely impressed with our students over the three days of camp. The Year 9 cohort showed respect for others, were very polite and went with a positive attitude into all the different activities. The staff at Melbourne Discovery, our accommodation, commented on how lovely all of our students were for the three days.

Congratulations to the students for raising $90 in loose change over the duration of the camp in order to donate funds to the Shrine of Remembrance, which was a great effort.
