Anzac Day 2020

Anzac Day took a very different format this year with many of our students participating in the 6am Dawn Service from home.  Students from the Bible and Schmude family laid a wreath in their school uniform to commemorate the day.

From the Archives

From our Archivist Anthony Kelly.

There has been recent discussion among the archivists regarding the St Ursula's school moto. There was a change some years back, but the question is, during what year? The College welcomes any information regarding the date, the designing of the new crest and moto as well as any memories on the change. Comments can also be made on our facebook post featuring the banners.

Anthony Kelly can also be contacted at akelly4@arm.catholic.edu.au

ASX Sharemarket Game

What an interesting time to play the sharemarket game! Mr Chapman has presented a report.

There are only two weeks left in the Sharemarket game!  The current leader in our school is ME (Mr Chapman).  I have $60 902.28 in my portfolio with a profit of $10 902.28.  If only it was real money!  Second, at the moment, is Alex MacMahon (Yr 11) who has $57 750.  He has sold all his shares and has it all in cash.  Are you expecting a stock market crash, Alex? Next is Sam Bible (Yr 12) with $55 517.95 followed by Abigail Van Eyk ($54 707.72).  At the other end of the tally is Kieran Wicks who has lost around $4500.  His portfolio is $45 488.18.  Looks like his strategy of logging in once at the start and buying shares, then never logging in again isn't working.

Good luck, everyone.  2 weeks to go!

Mr Chapman

Do it for Dolly

Makaala Dodd has once again being doing a fantastic job as promoting 'Do it for Dolly Day' which commemorates the life of Dolly Everett and also reminds us to continue to take a stand against bullying of all kinds.

Remote Learning

O'Connor students and teachers have continued to explore the world of remote learning and the new skills it has encouraged us all to learn. The staff are so proud of how the student body has been made their best efforts in adapting to this new style of learning.

PHOTO: Delilah Layton also appeared in a feature on the Landline facebook page, highlighting her experience of remote learning.

Daily Challenges

The daily challenges continue to flow, complements of our Lasallian Youth Ministers Eliza Clark, Brydie Hawthorne and Taryn  The number of new skills we are learning as a school body has been starting to add up with the following TikTok challenge involving Ms Menz, Lily Roff, and Mr Roff symbolising how far we have come. :-)

Check out our Facebook page for some more responses from staff and students towards these challenges which have done much to help us remain connected.

Food Tech / Hospitality

Students from a variety of year groups continue to hone their culinary skills from their home kitchens. Many of these students are excited to share their process and presentation photos with Mrs Healey.

Year 9 were sent home with a "cooking from the past" remote learning activity at the end of Term 1. They were required to contact an elderly relative (who might really appreciate a phone call at the moment) and chat about recipes that were popular in the past. They then had to prepare that recipe for their family and share the photos. Many O'Connor families were treated to lamingtons, homemade biscuits, cinnamon scrolls, butter cake, lemon cake and scones for morning tea, home made lamb shanks, roast beef and pasta for dinner and golden syrup dumplings or if you were really lucky, a Mexican creme caramel for dessert!!

Staff 'Canteen'

O'Connor teaching and support staff who have been spending time at school have been treated to some lunches prepared by Jordan Sutherland, Ryan van der Veer and Mr Mark Honeysett. In what has been quite a busy time, these lunches have been very much appreciated. On Thursday teachers and support staff were treated to Jordan's Thai red curry and Ryan's lentil soup. Both had good reviews.

TAS Department

The end of Term 1 saw Year 7 students create some clever lights using just LED lights and recycled items. These lights could easily be made cheaply in third world counties from recycled items.

Ag Farm Throwback Memories

Mrs Price has sent through some photos from the past. Who can recognise the teacher in this photo below who was helping to construct the farm shed at the time?

Some throwback photos of current and ex-students who enjoyed their time at the Ag farm.
