YEARS 5 & 6 BIBLE LITURGY
The boys were involved in a beautiful Liturgy today where every Year 5 student received their Bible. Mr Patterson showed the boys his first Bible which he has had for over 50 years. Both Mr Patterson and Mr Couani told the boys about the importance of looking after their Bible and reading about the good news. This is a great discussion starter for tonight’s dinner table conversation.
THURSDAY 16th MARCH - SPORT WITH CBHS LEWISHAM - FUNDRAISER FOR SAVIO
Thank you to all the parents for their support of our sports day with another EREA school, CBHS Lewisham. It should be a rewarding day of camaraderie for the boys and we will raise some funds for an EREA flexi-centre entitled Savio (named after St Dominic Savio) which is for Primary School children who are less fortunate than ourselves.
We will be leaving after Period 1 so the boys will need to bring their morning tea and lunch. If your son is playing in an outdoor activity such as Touch Football, AFL or Tennis it would be a good idea to bring a change of clothes (which is what we do in the winter sporting season) in case they get wet. We will also organise indoor activities but if possible we will play outside.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Joel Santeli who is receiving a special merit award at The Concourse this Friday. Joel put a high quality entry into the state-wide ’Say No to Bullying' Competition and he is being rewarded for his efforts. Well done Joel.
OPEN DAY - THIS SATURDAY 18th MARCH
Thank you to the boys who have volunteered to be guides on Open Day. Many have sport in the morning but are coming later in the day to Chatswood, or will be guides at Oxford Falls. On Friday after lunch I will take the boys for a walk around the school so they know the tour route. Please ensure your son looks neat and tidy with polished shoes.
YOUTHSAFE PRESENTATION
Year 6 had an informative incursion based around being safe. The presentation was made by Youthsafe and was 50% subsidised by the Chatswood RSL. Thankyou to Chatswood RSL and I hope the boys benefitted from the incursion. Have a discussion with your son about his experience.
P&F COCKTAIL PARTY
I hope to see you at the P&F Cocktail Party on Friday 24th March. The annual P&F Cocktail party is always fun and a great way to catch up with friends and make new ones. This year we have changed the venue to the School Gym at Chatswood.
Cost is $40 per head which includes cocktail food, beer, wine, sparkling and soft drinks. You can RSVP at Trybooking by clicking here. We look forward to seeing you on the 24th.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Mr T Long - Head of Junior School
Thursday Sport: The Savio Sports Fundraiser with Christian Brothers Lewisham takes place in lieu of regular sport. Departure will be 9.45am from Chatswood with normal pick-up procedures in place from 2.20pm. Boys should bring a packed lunch and change of clothes for outdoor sports if the weather is inclement.
AFL, Football (Soccer) and Rugby - Winter Season: Originally we had planned to start winter trials this week for AFL, Football and Rugby. However, we now have our Savio Sports Fundraiser with Christian Brothers Lewisham. We will therefore begin our trials on Thursday 23rd March. Boys need a full change of clothing including jersey, shorts, socks and boots (does not need to be St Pius gear for training/trials) and relevant protective gear (shin-pads, mouthguards, headgear etc.) As all boys will make a team for their winter choice, now is the time to purchase the SPX uniform for Saturday games.
Football: Congratulations to Luca Damianakis who was recently selected for the IPSHA Football Squad. He now has the chance to gain CIS selection for the PSSA (State Championships). We wish him the best of luck.
Swimming: Our swimmers competed admirably at both the Brothers and IPSHA meets recently. There were many wins and some fine individual performances. Whilst no swimmers progressed to IPSHA via the highly competitive selection Carnival, the boys competed with determination and pride. The competitive season resumes in Term 4 for the Squad members and runs concurrently with our curriculum-based aquatic programs (pool and beach) for all students.
Rugby: We have trial matches scheduled for Saturday 25th March at Oxford Falls. Players will be assigned a squad during internal trials at Thursday Sport.

Softball: Round 5 Report
On a perfect Saturday morning, my eleven eager players arrived at Oxford Falls to play their second game of the season. Happy to finally get back on the diamond, after a frustrating run of washed-out games, the boys warmed up ready for another exciting contest.
After losing the toss we were sent in to bat. This did not worry our batters, with 5 runners making it home. When it was our turn to field, SPX pitcher Marcus Steen was quick to claim his first scalp. The fielders Eliot Sanders, Rowan Roomie, Max Lenton and Michael Whitehead were exceptional at getting to the ball and delivering it back to the bases. Thomas Wilkins and Joshua Connors were courageous in their efforts behind the home plate, restricting the opposition to a score of two.
In the second innings we were fortunate to have all our players make it home. However, it was our fielding that excited myself as coach. Jose Monk, Nicholas Rondeau, Patrick Hall and Jhon Evans defended their bases and received all throws from fielders accurately, completing the innings with the scoreboard reading SPX 14 – Grammar 2.
During the final innings, SPX had 7 runners make it home and restricted Grammar to only 1 run. We played a great game and displayed good sportsmanship with convincing 21-3 win. We missed our captain, Andrew Bradford, and hope he is fit enough to make our final game.
Thank you to Liz Ward for keeping score and assisting the players with their batting line-up.
Please Note next week’s game later (8:45am) as Tudor house travels from Moss Vale.
Players be at Oxford Falls 8:20am.
