Year Prep 'Portraits'

Students were given a choice to create a

self-portrait (using a mirror), a portrait of a friend, or a loved one (eg. mum, dad). They used the visual elements of lines and colour to express feelings such as happy or sad. Students were given a choice of crayons and colour pencils to create their artwork.

Year Prep 'Using our imagination'

After reading “Harold and the purple crayon” by Crockett Johnson and “Art” by Patrick Mc Donnell, students were encouraged to use their imagination like Harold and Art and to draw different types of lines, shapes and colour to create a picture.

Year One 'Animals'

Students used the visual elements of line, shape, colour and texture to create their chosen animal. They used famous artworks and photos of animals as an inspiration to create their own artwork.

What the Year Two's learnt at art this term.

At art this year, The Lakes Year two students learnt how to paint by feelings and patterns. We made posters to stop bullying and keeping harmony alive. We are all different and that's the only thing that matters and that's what love is. HARMONY! PEACE! LOVE!

Year Two 'Drawing Poems'

Students listened to a poem called "The Fluffy Puppy" and created a mental image in their head. They used the visual elements of line, colour, texture and movement to create what they imagined while listening to the poem.

The Fluffy Puppy

"The fluffy brown puppy lazily opens his

tired eyes.

His floppy ears slowly prick up as he hears soft voices of his loved ones.

His bushy long tail starts to beat the wooden floor,

Like a drummer playing the drums."

Year Two 'Silly Sentences'

Students created their own silly sentences using given words. They learnt how to think as an illustrator by drawing the sentence they created.

Year Three 'Bush Medicine'

Students reflected on and drew ideas from the artwork of Utopian artist, Rosemary Petyarre. Through a range of activities students explored the shapes, colours and appearance of leaves from the native trees of our school grounds. These were then developed conceptually by mark making and colour mixing through painting activities, and a collaged artwork.

Year Four 'Graffiti Art'

Students created a mural inspired by Gunnai Waradgerie man - Robert Young who is a local Aboriginal visual artist. He used symbolism to express Aboriginal heritage.

Students chose a theme or subject to express their identity. They included a word of significance and learnt how to create their word using a style of graffiti typography.

Students used colour theory to aid their colour choices. They selected a complementary or analogous colour scheme and used colour pencils to blend their chosen colours.

"I liked that we got to do things involving other cultures such as Aboriginal graffiti and it's because the culture is calm and peaceful. I learnt how to blend colours for the typography."

Year Five 'Reflection'

Art this term has been very fun! At the very start of the term we drew bikes. Though it sounds very simple and easy, I think it's safe to say that it was pretty challenging but we got there at the end!

After the drawing/drafting week we made our bikes into wire art! Once again it was very challenging but I really liked mine!

Towards the end of term/harmony week we made harmony posters! Overall art has been very fun this term!

Year Five 'Wire Sculptures'

Students created a wire sculpture of their own choice inspired by Alexander Calder – a famous artist who used wire to create art. They were given a choice to embellish their sculptures with beads, bells and coloured foils.
