Primary Performing Arts

Term 1 Highlights.

Term 1 has been an exciting launch into Performing Arts for 2020. Students in P-5 have begun their semester of music which will be followed by dance in Term 3 and drama in Term 4. At the beginning of term, students were becoming familiar with routines and expectations within the music space. Classroom music at The Lakes encourages students to develop the confidence to be creative, innovative, thoughtful and work as a team.  Some of the highlights this term has included:

Prep

The preps enjoyed becoming familiar with the music space and learning about how to carefully play classroom instruments. We have been following an animal theme to learn about the elements of music by learning songs, chants, movement and percussion instruments. Some of the elements we have explored have been looking at high/low, long/short, loud/soft sounds in music we hear and music we make.

Year Ones

The ones have had a colourful start to the year by exploring a rainbow theme to explore elements of music such as noise and silence, faster and slower, longer and shorter, higher and lower, louder and softer, happy and sad. They have enjoyed learning the Auslan actions to ‘I can sing a rainbow’ and listening and responding to classical music.

Year Twos

The year twos have commenced their unit on playing and arranging rhythms on percussion and drums. They have been developing their skills in imagining, creating, composing and performing. The have explored formal notation and learning rhythms aurally.

Year Threes

The year threes have been refreshing their skills on rhythmic notation as well as musical notational on the treble stave. The students have been learning to play songs on glockenspiels as well as coming up with their own compositions and arrangements. They have also been learning written arrangements which they have performed to their class.

Year Fours

Students in Claire’s Year Four Arts rotation have been learning bucket drumming for their 7 week cycle. They have been learning how to use drumsticks correctly and focus on different sticking techniques. They performed arrangements of popular songs and are learning how to play as an ensemble.

Year Fives
