What we’ve been up to at OSHC!

Donations for bushfire affected Glen Innes Public School...

Last week the children learned about the recent effects of bushfires on communities in NSW and QLD. We read the book ‘Fire’ by Jackie French and the children discussed how it might feel if their school or home burnt down. The children also learnt about the community of Glen Innes and the devastating  fires in this area of NSW. We talked about fire that burnt down Wytaliba Public School near Glen Innes and the children were saddened to hear that some children have lost their school. Prompted by this social justice issue, the children decided that they needed to do something to cheer up the children of Glen Innes! Last week the children worked hard to create a range of decorations which we will donate to their upcoming school disco! It was absolutely fantastic to see the children so engaged and connected with their community, displaying a sense of belonging to the common good in our wider community.

Lots of fun at the park…

Last Friday we celebrated all things summer and had lots of fun at Elsternwick Park! The children were so excited about our trip to the park and really enjoyed having a play on the equipment as well as sharing morning snack together. Later, the children got super messy as we made some awesome tie dye bags! It was a fantastic day and it was great to see the children so engaged in the program!

Staff update for 2020

We would like to let all families know that Laura and Lachie will be staying on at St James in 2020. It has been a fantastic year at OSHClub and we can’t wait for some fun times ahead in 2020!

As the year draws to a close, we wish Lachie farewell until next year! Lachie is heading overseas to America from the 4th of December until early January next year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Lachie for all his hard work this term with the families and children at OSHClub. We hope he has an amazing trip and we can’t wait to see him again in Term 1, 2020.

Do you have any recycled materials we could use at OSHClub?

As part of our initiative to embed more sustainable practices within our program, we would love it if you could bring any recyclable materials that the children could repurpose into some awesome craft inventions! Things like toilet rolls, jars, boxes or even newspaper would be fantastic!

We look forward to seeing you and your family soon!

End of year farewells!

We would like to take one last opportunity to thank everyone in the community for making us so welcome here at St James. It has been an amazing year and we have thoroughly enjoyed working with the families and children at OSHClub. From reestablishing the vegetable gardens with the volunteers at St Stephen’s Community Gardens, to learning about pet care with Sue from Doggies Day out, as well as visitors from Vasey RSL care and of course our amazing excursion to Elsternwick park, it has been a truly FUN year filled with laughter and lots of learning. We can't wait to create more magical memories with your children next year!It has been an amazing program this year at OSHClub, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the support from the St James community, so thank you! We would like to wish all families a safe and restful Christmas break and we will see you all in 2020!

From the Team at OSHClub: Laura and Lachie ☺
