Amazing Aladdin

Amazing Aladdin

On Wednesday 18th of October some Year 7's to Year 11's went into the city with Mrs Williams and Mrs Swannell to see Aladdin the Musical.  If I were to describe the performance in one word that would be impossible because I’d need 700 more pages to describe even a fraction of how fantastical the musical was.

Let’s start with, well the start!  At the beginning of the performance, before any of the dancing and very, very, very, loud music, the Genie came out onstage to give a little introduction about the performance and what to expect.   He was actually quite funny, making a purposeful, scripted, mistake and instead of bringing out his lamp, he brought out a tub of Vegemite. “Whoops! Not that. Was doing my shopping earlier.”  Then he brought out the lamp.   That was when all the music started, so loud and abrupt that some of the girls sitting near me screamed.

The intro song was awesome, and the costumes were amazing!  To quote the Genie, “even the poor people look faaabuuloouus!!”   The costumes are so bright, vibrant and sparkling, every single sequin placed in the perfect spot as to catch the light spectacularly!  And they looked like legitimate Indian clothes too. The tassels swing when they need to, the sequins glow beautifully, well, when they need to! Why can’t my clothes do that?   Aside from rambling on about the clothes, the visuals and performance were a lot of pyrotechnics and flares, smoke machines and streamers shooting out of, well from what I could see, nowhere!   Everyone had amazing voices, the backdrops and backgrounds were amazing!!

Ah!! I could go on forever! But there is one scene I want to talk about, which was my absolute favourite, the scene inside the Cave of Wonders, where Aladdin finds Genie, and the ‘You ain’t never had a friend like me’ song begins.  The Cave is completely gold, nothing else but gold!   And the Egyptian jade Aladdin touches which causes the cave to close was amazing.   Genie’s appearance is spectacular, pyrotechnics, smoke, sparkles, and a bunch of sparkly, gold-clad dancers. Some of the piles of gold actually turn out to be dancers hiding behind them!

In short, the musical is totally worth it. The songs, are awesome. The dances, are amazing. The costumes, are gorgeous! It’s eye and ear candy.   It's faaabuuloouus!
