Principal's Report
The 2017 School Year Begins
The 2017 School Year began yesterday with 409 students enrolled at Ormond. I would like to welcome back all those students and their families who are well established at Ormond. On behalf of the Ormond community I also welcome those students and their families who are new to the school. As I said at the assembly yesterday morning I am sure that we will all work together to make sure that everyone is made to feel most welcome.
Action Over the Holidays
Throughout January a number of staff members have been working to make sure that all was in readiness for the school year. Jan Cassidy and Brodie Thomson worked diligently to make sure that the stationery packs were organised for each class across the school. April Kopitz and the Out of School Hours Care team have conducted a wonderful holiday program for a regular group of students from Prep – Year 6. Each time I dropped in everyone was relaxed and engaged in the full variety of activities.
Plumbing works were carried out in late December. Works included the replacement of drinking taps at the outside troughs, replacement of all taps and the installation of some new cisterns in the student toilets.
Roofing and plaster repairs were completed in the Art Room, 2000 Building foyer and in Room 20 in the 2011 Building. It was pleasing to note that the heavy storm in early January did not cause damage to the building.
A thorough clean off all classroom and interior spaces was carried out by our cleaners, Star Property Services. They did a great job.
I would also like to acknowledge the dedication displayed by Sue Hatch, an Ormond parent, who took great care in planting garden beds, mulching and watering around the Wheatley Road and Murray Road entrances over the holidays. I am sure that we all appreciate the improvements that have taken place. Thank you.
New Staff
A number of new teachers have commenced their work at Ormond. Joshua Hewett has transferred from Billanook Primary School and is teaching Year 1 A. Andrea Durward has transferred from Moorabbin and is teaching Year 1 C. Paul Bratt and Stephanie Halliday are both beginning their teaching careers at Ormond. Paul is teaching Year 1 B while Stephanie is teaching Prep C. I am confident that these four vibrant teachers will be assets to our school.
Out of School Hours Care
The Out of School Hours Care is reaching its licence capacity in After School Care sessions.
If you have made an earlier booking to secure your child/children's place but no longer require this care please contact our OSHC Coordinator, April Kopitz on 9578 5826 as soon as possible.

Education and Policy Sub Committee Meeting - Asthma Management
The Education and Policy Sub Committee have arranged a parent session which will be conducted by The Asthma Foundation of Victoria for Tuesday 7th February at 6:30pm. This session will be held upstairs in the Year 5/6 Atrium area.
All concerned parents are encouraged to attend this information session to hear the practices recommended for managing child asthma.
2017 Excursion Pyament Scheme
Any families who have not yet paid for the Excursion Payment Scheme and wish to do so are asked to make payment to the office (or via classroom cashbags) no later than Wednesday 8th February. Your option to make payment online through Compass are no longer availble at this time.
Please contact the office as soon as possible if you have any questions regarding CSEF Applications or Excursion Payment Scheme payments.
School Crossing Safety
All parents who drive their children to school should be aware of the need for safe driving and parking practices near school crossings. Two key requirements are:
- Avoid parking close to the crossing in order to maintain clear visibility for all users.
- Cross at the marked crossings on Wheatley Road and Murray Roads.
Impromptu Working Bee
Due to the floods in the area in early January a lot of playground soft fall materials were washed out and across the basketball and tennis courts. I will be leading a rapid working bee from 3:45 to 4:45 pm on Thursday, 2nd of February. We have plenty of brooms but I ask the community members to bring along wide shovels and spades. A team of twenty volunteers will knock this over quickly.
Icy Pole Day
Icy Poles will be availble to purchase for 50c at lunchtime each Thursday during Term 1, starting next Thursday 9th February.
Any parents who have a spare time on a Thursday between 12:45 and 1:30pm and would like to volunteer to assist in the selling of Icy Poles are asked to please contact Nicole Webster .
Student Banking
The first day of Student Banking for 2017 will be Thursday 9th February.
I look forward to a great year working alongside the Ormond community.
