A Word from the Principal

Reflection

As Term 1 comes to a crashing crescendo, it is timely to stop and reflect – what have we achieved this term?

Lent is always a time to reflect on what we can do better and what we can do differently.  Better and different are two sides of the coin.  The College has endeavoured to provide our students with a smooth start to 2019. We established the “book drops” in O-week and the Vertical Clan system which helped students to reconnect to the College after the long summer break.  The Vertical Clans have started slowly with students getting to know each other and taking part in different house activities.  Learning groups have been working hard on ensuring students know what the units they are studying are about and where they are heading.  These road maps for learning continue to be a vital part of the conversation with parents and students – how are you going with your learning?   The Goal Setting and Learning Conferences establish a meeting place and parameter for these parent and student conversations – together we can make a difference to our students learning.

Our sporting teams have continued to amaze us – with champions in and out of the water. Cricket, rowing, surfing, tennis – all activities that have seen students working together to succeed. Swimming and Athletics Carnivals all occurred in Term 1 this year, creating a fast paced whirlwind of activity.

Our musicians came together last week for the Autumn Concert, an event which showcases their ability, but also their hard work and the many hours of practise that it takes to seamlessly perform.  The House Captains are in the process of establishing a House Band Off – a new challenge which will see the students compete for House points.  Rehearsals are already underway for the play in Term 2.

Camps have also been organised and enjoyed. Outdoor Education had their first camp – a three day rafting experience. All the students had an incredible time mastering new skills, however took just as many days to recover from their exhaustion.  The Year 5 students headed to Port Arthur and the weather was amazing for them.  They came back smiling and joyous.  In our final week of Term 1, all the secondary students headed out.  Upon their return, please keep in mind the added traffic around the school on Friday afternoon with students and their belongings being collected.

Then we stop – we breathe, we rejuvenate, we stretch and we refresh.  I wish all our families a happy and relaxing term break.  Take the opportunity to celebrate Easter – the hope and the Resurrection.

Thought of the Week

It is at Easter that Jesus is most human, and like all humans, he fails and is failed. His is not an all-powerful God, it is an all-vulnerable God.
