On Sunday the 30th of June the Armidale Diocesan Rugby Team traveled all the way to Forbes to compete in the Polding trials. We had two very talented players, Darcy Hannaford and Ben McCumstie, representing the school. That afternoon the boys were treated to coaching sessions run by current and former Warratahs players. It was a unique opportunity to gain some knowledge and improve their skills. After that had finished it was time for their one and only training session as a team. Combinations were worked out and a basic game plan established. By this time the cold and dark had set in and so it was off to bed ready for an early start.

The next day was a crisp morning, perfect for rugby. The MacKillop trials awoke to a quagmire as their watering system was left on all night. Fortunately our pitch was perfect. Over the course of the day the team played four games. The  games were a  selection trial so no scores were kept by officials. We did, however,  draw three games, which showed just how close the skills levels were. Darcy and Ben both played fantastically. Ben dominated all scrums that were contested and stole possession as he worked tirelessly for the team. Darcy was one of the leading pilferers, with statistics that David Pocock would be proud of, and tackled mercilessly all day. Unfortunately, despite their outstanding form, neither were selected to the next level. Both boys should be proud of the efforts they gave and the way they both conducted themselves on and off the field.

Thank you to Mr Hannaford who helped out coaching the forwards on the day and gave some  invaluable insight into other players. Thank you also to Mrs McCumstie for taking some fabulous photos.

Athletics Carnival

The next big event on our sporting calender is our Athletics Carnival, which will be held at Donnelly Fields on Friday 2 August. Due to time constraints, we have decided to run the 800m races prior to the day. The 800m (8 years and above) races will be held on Wednesday 24 July at Donnelly Fields at 11.30am. Only students who have nominated will participate in this event (emails went home regarding this yesterday).  You can nominate your child for the 800 m event on Qkr. Nominations are due by Friday 5 July.

This year the Athletics Carnival will be held at Donnelly Fields which is new for all of us. As such we will need as many parent helpers as possible on events and timekeeping to ensure there are enough staff members on supervision duties. We can not physically run these events without parent help.

An email has previously gone home asking you to fill in a form to indicate that you can help on Friday 2 August. Thank you to those few who have already done this.
