Out and About the School

Chess

Five boys from Year 6 competed in the primary school division of the Sydney Academy of Chess Inter-school competition played at Calrossy, Tamworth on 19 June. They each played seven games using a clock at fifteen minutes per person per game. It was an enjoyable day and the students played very well. Special congratulations goes to Lucas Sardinha who did not lose any of his games, scoring 6.5 out of 7. Lucas was awarded 2nd place on a count back.

NAIDOC Week

Thank you to all who were involved in our NAIDOC week liturgy and assembly. It was a wonderful way to open our NAIDOC week celebration and the Waanda Goldman (Spirit brothers) dance group provided us with an amazing array of aboriginal music, song and dancing. Years 4, 5 and 6 were fortunate to participate in traditional Aboriginal dance workshops which had everyone moving, clapping and singing.

On Tuesday we all gathered for the Flag Raising ceremony which incorporated a traditional smoking ceremony.  Again this was a very meaningful event and fascinating to see how fire was traditionally started.

During the week there has also been a range of NAIDOC activities taking place in classrooms. On Friday each class will have an opportunity to share what they have done, we will enjoy a NAIDOC week cake and Mrs Field will announce the winners of the NAIDOC week colouring in competition.

Some student artwork will be on display at the 2019 NAIDOC exhibition, Civic Gallery, July 12th to August 9th so please go down and have a look.

Absent Students

If your child is absent from school, the Compass system automatically sends out an SMS AND an email to notify you if your child is not at school. You can no longer reply by text/SMS. You must either ring the office with an explanation of your child being absent or use the email link (found in the email and SMS) to reply. You do not need to reply to both the text and the email, one or the other is sufficient.

Reminders will be sent each week for unexplained absences. Please respond asap so we do not have to spend time following this up. If you fail to respond, your child will remain an "unexplained absence" which will be recorded on their official record of attendance.

If your child arrives to school after 8.50 am, they MUST be signed in at the office. If you do not sign your child in, they will remain on the roll as an "Unjustified partial absence".

Thank you for your patience while the new system is implemented.
