House Swimming Carnival
On Friday, 21 February, Presentation College’s final House Swimming Carnival was held at Prahran Aquatic Centre. Despite the below average forecast, the day turned into an absolute gem. As teachers and students arrived early in the morning, the rain cleared and the sun came out. The chants began early, with all four houses making considerable noise during the early races, and there was a sea of red, green, yellow and blue with students dressed in their house colours. Mr Gitson was again the announcer for the day, doing a superb job as usual to not only keep the crowd entertained, but also ensuring we ran to schedule.
Throughout the day, it brilliant to see all students involved across a range of events covering the four core swimming strokes, team relays and the crowd favourite - inflatables relays! The Sports Captains played a major role in motivating and organising the students within their house and ensuring all races were full. Ms Galli and Ms Maddox also played a part with this as they used their excellent organisational skills to marshal the students into the correct lanes.
As the day progressed it become a tight finish, but Loyola took out the trophy on 459 points. They were closely followed by Xavier on 434, Kostka on 377, and then Nagle on 345. The Spirit Award, which was judged and awarded by Ms Virgato, was awarded to Xavier, narrowly edging out Loyola. Sadly for the students, the teachers continued their dominance in the Teachers vs Students Relay, lightning quick Teena Getulio put in a fantastic effort to close the lead but was not quite able to get the students over the line.
Well done to all students who cheered, clapped and competed during the day. Also a big thanks to all staff and students who provided assistance and support, both before and during the event.
