Respectful Relationships
During the last fortnight staff have been having Professional Learning as we start looking at implementing Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships (the 4Rs). This is a school-based program mandated by the Victorian Government. This initiative forms part of the Victorian Government’s response to the Royal Commission into Family Violence. Our focus at Menzies Creek will be on treating everyone with respect and dignity and developing awareness of gender bias. The best relationships are respectful ones and as a school we will be looking at our practices and policies to further build a culture of tolerance and equality.
It is aimed at providing a holistic approach to comprehensively address the drivers of gender-based violence and to create a future free from such violence through addressing the following areas:
School Crossing Supervisor
We have had many requests to nominate Phillip Whitehouse. Jump online and complete a nomination at www.schoolcrossingsvictoria.com.au
Bake Sale
What a wonderful response we had last week for our bake sale that Hollie along with Alessia, Aliah and Emily planned and organised. Money raised was about $300 which will go towards supporting the Bushfire Relief. Congratulations on being such community minded
Parking
This was communicated a few weeks ago but please ensure that you are adhering to the posted signs when parking near the school. It has been noticed that cars are parked in both disabled and in no standing zones. Unless you have the appropriate displays please don’t park in the designated disabled parking areas as we have families that need this and haven’t been able to access it. Thanks for your understanding.
Foundation excursion
Our Foundation students, as part of their 'Bugs Alive!' inquiry are today visiting the Melbourne museum to investigate bugs in our environment. With it being a wet day I am sure they are loving exploring the exhibitions and the gallery finding out all about their bugs of choice.
Looking ahead…
Family Picnic Night – Friday 13th from 3:30 – 5:30
Please join us on the green space to hang out with the families of the Menzies Creek community. Bring a picnic rug and chairs. Enjoy our sausage sizzle. Join in games, or sit and relax with friends old and new. For new families, this is a great opportunity to meet other members of our special community. We look forward to seeing you there!
Year 6 excursion next Friday 13th
This excursion will focus on supporting Year 6 students to develop their leadership skills. The day will be planned so that students are required to complete activities that promote communication, collaboration, planning, courage and vision. Thanks to the parents who have volunteered to support the teachers. Let’s hope the weather is kind.
Swimming stars
We had some fantastic results yesterday and some students are moving through to the next stage. Congratulations to Reve, Nate, Joel, Ben, Alice and Syd on representing yourselves and the school so well. Thanks to Matt for his continued support.
Assembly
Tomorrow we will have a presentation from Christy’s 3/4C class which was postponed last week and Riaane and Matt’s 1/2RM as planned. The students have been busy preparing and we are all looking forward to it.
Don’t forget that Monday is a public holiday so please don’t send your children to school!
Have a great week,
Dale McInerney
