Principal's Report

Twilight Market

Thank you to all those associated with the planning and organization of the recent Twilight Market. What a wonderful event with around 2000 people attending the school to enjoy the great weather, plenty of food, craft, stalls, entertainment and activities for kids. The Twilight Market has raised over $24,000 which can be used to fund one of the school’s top priorities. This will be identified in discussions between School Council and the Parents & Friends early next year. I will keep the community posted.

Election Day Sausage Sizzle

A hardy band of School Councillors including parents Frank Arrigo, Jo Harty, Ric Birkett, Cath Shaw, Di Wiseman as well as Lorrie Dell and I, toiled away at the Election Day Sausage Sizzle. It is great to be part of an Australian tradition and raise money for the school as well. On this occasion we raised approximately $650.

To quote Ric:

“Exercise your democratic right to have a            sausage. There are some countries where        you can’t!”

Jay Tucker – Assistant Principal

Congratulations to Jay Tucker who was appointed as the Assistant Principal of Elwood Primary School last Friday. Jay has been a driving force in curriculum and pedagogical innovation at Ormond over the last two years and he takes up the promotion position at Elwood with our warmest regards. Please take the time to catch up with Jay during his final three weeks at Ormond.

Carrie Tunnock

Our best wishes go with Carrie Tunnock as finishes the school year in time to prepare for motherhood in February next year. Carrie has been with us since 2006 and she has had contact with many Ormond families over that time.

Galina Overell

On behalf of the Ormond community I would also like to wish Galina Overell all the very best as she, too, completes the school year prior to beginning maternity leave for the 2015 school year. Galina has been teaching at Ormond in a broad range of roles since 2007 displaying versatility and enthusiasm each time.

Correspondence & Class Organization

The period for correspondence has closed and I have considered all of the concerns that parents have raised. I have allocated students to classes based on my best judgement taking into account all of the complexities. This week the teachers will complete their role in the process of class grouping for 2015. Once I have the teachers’ recommendations I will make any necessary adjustments prior to notification of parents on Monday, 15th of December.

New Teachers

Four new teachers will begin working at Ormond Primary School in 2015. Three of these teachers have been selected earlier this term. Elise Cooper will teach Prep next year and she comes to us from Murrumbeena Primary School. Jacqui Sampson comes to us from Chelsea Primary School and she will teach Year 5. Jacinda Milczakowsky will teach Year 1 and she is currently at Kingston Heath PS. The fourth teacher, to replace Jay Tucker, will be selected in two weeks

Students not returning to Ormond in 2015

If your child is in Year 5-Prep and will not be returning to Ormond Primary School in 2015 and have not yet notified the school in writing can you please do so by Friday 5th December so the organisation of the 2015 classes can be finalised. Please include the school you will be attending in 2015 in the letter so appropriate transfer information can be sent.
