Stage 6 Canberrra Excursion

Students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital, Canberra. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $20.00 per student with a total of 12 students participating under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Stage 6 had the most wonderful time during this excursion to Canberra from Monday 11th - Wednesday 13th November. They visited Old Parliament House, the Australian Mint, Cockington Green, Dinosaur Museum and Questacon, to name just a few.

A huge thank you to LiveBetter  and the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate who helped fund this excursion for the students.

Year 12 Graduation

Graduation is both a tremendously joyous time but can also be a time of sadness as the realisation of 13 years of schooling is about to come to an end. However, for our students there are great opportunities in TAFE, work and apprenticeships as well as engaging in adult day programs to look forward to.

Each year the number of Year 12s graduating has increased and this year we have 16 students who have achieved the award of Higher School Certificate.  The graduates for 2019 are:  Kiarra Uppal, Jacob George-Sigley, Patricia Bragg, Cody Sawley, Libby Dante, Heath Black, Andrew Button, Hanna Carter, Nick De Mauro, Beatrice Martin,  Stephen Mitchell,  Georgia Noonan, Olivia Sligar-Keen, David Turner, Travis Welsh and Maddie Writer.  Max Wilson is unfortunately no longer with us but was a special part of this graduating class.

The students have had a great team of staff around them over the past two years led by Mrs Christine Kovac up until term 3 of this year when she took up the position of Principal at Lyndhurst.  One of the students’ first teachers, Assistant Principal Kay Callow travelled from the Blue Mountains to spend the night with the students and see them graduate. Mrs Elke Cunial organised the evening event, with many helpers in the background.

Thanks to Mrs Sally Hodges, Mrs Trish Quilty, Mr David Gell, Mrs Kim Turner, Mrs Penny May, Miss Bree Cowden, Mr Matt Casey, Mrs Mel Said and Dr. Tracey Borg who have taught the students this year.

To our graduates, I hope you come back and visit us often and that we hear about what you are all up to.

The song dedicated to the 2019 graduates is called Your New Beginning written by Julie Durden. Here is a short excerpt from the song.

You're our dreamers, game changers, spectacular and braver

Than this world even knows

But our future will show...

Repeat you got this

You got this

This is not an ending...

No... It's your new beginnings.

Spectacular Schools Spectacular

At 5am on Wednesday 20th November, 10 of us got in the bus for the start of our Schools Spectacular journey. We arrived at Qudos Bank Arena for our rehearsal and excited to receive our costumes. We danced most of the day before arriving at our accommodation. Thursday was our first full dress rehearsal where we got to watch some of the show from the audience seats. It was a really long day and we were all in bed early that night. Friday was the first performance and we had about 30 staff and students from school come to watch us perform. That night Mrs & Mr Meers, Ms Pritchard and Mr & Mrs Kempson came to support us. We heard they may have even cried! Saturday we were really excited as it was our last shows and we got to see our families at the end of the night. We danced particularly well and even during our breaks. I was lucky enough to be a dance captain and got to help a little boy from a school in Sydney to make sure he made it into his place on stage in each performance. It was sad to say goodbye to all the friends we made while at Schools Spectacular. Thank you Mrs Griffen for driving us home after the show on Saturday night. It was a struggle getting to school on Monday seeing as we were all so tired. All up, this was the best thing I have ever done and cannot wait to go again. We also had the best teachers with us, Miss Gilchrist, Mr Corby Mrs Douglas and Miss KJ.
