From the Principal

Welcome to Autumn.
The first five weeks of school have flown by and have been packed full of learning, sporting activities and fun. I was excited for our school to have received notification that we are to receive supplementary funding to alleviate staffing pressures in Schools for Specific Purposes. This will mean that funding we have allocated to important positions in our school such as non-teaching Deputy Principal, Instructional Leader Wellbeing, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Clinical Psychologist, Art Support Officer etc can be used for teaching and learning resources and important projects across our school.
On Friday it was great to be involved in the swimming carnival and see our students joining in and competing and having fun with the staff. Thanks to Mrs Callie Douglas who organised a highly successful day for the first time in Term 1 so that eligible students can go onto the next level of swimming and represent our school.
It was wonderful to see so many parents and friends at our Welcome to Families BBQ. I enjoyed showing our families around the school and I know the students enjoyed getting their faces painted and having a go on the jumping castle. I appreciate staff staying on after a long day and joining in the festivities.
I received a response from the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability - Education and Learning Issues Paper that they had received my submission.
Thank you for your valuable response to the Education and Learning Issues Paper, which we
received on 23 December 2019. We apologise for our delay in responding.
We have now reviewed your response which details the way that Anson Street School supports
students with disability or degenerative diseases. We appreciate your efforts to explain the
challenges for students with disability and how Anson Street School caters for these students. The
case studies you provided and views from across the school community were extremely helpful.
Thank you to staff and community members who provided information so that I could collate and send a measured response from our school. I also sent copies to Local Member Mr Phillip Donato, Federal Member Mr Andrew Gee and Orange Director of Educational Leadership, Mr Duncan Auld. I will continue to fight for our students to have schools like Anson Street School remain open, and for the broader population to understand that we are providing an inclusive education that caters for all students. We have high expectations for our students and continue to ensure that we are providing excellence in education for our student body. If you would like a copy of the submission please contact the school.
Enjoy the cooler and hopefully wetter weeks ahead as we move towards Easter.
