Working on Water – WoW
A Year 9/10 Career Exploration Opportunity
21-23 October 2019
The Working on Water, or WoW program, is a ‘hands-on’ three-day career pathway program for Years 9 and 10 that will introduce students to the diversity of professions and occupations that are available on, in and around the marine environment. They range from the many roles involved in the aquaculture industry, through marine engineering and construction, tourism, underwater exploration, marine policing, research, and policy and planning.
WOW has been running now since 2008, delivered by the Tasmanian Seafood Industry Council (TSIC) with support from the education sectors, and with the active participation of industry and business. It is an authentic ‘real world’ and out-of-classroom experience.
Over three days, students visit industry sites, listen to professionals in different marine occupations, learn about pathways into different positions, and go out on the water for first-hand experience of working on water.
The program is funded by sponsorship from local industry and there is no charge for students. It is for students with a genuine interest in water-related careers and those who understand the benefits that they could gain from participating in the program. There are a limited number of positions available. Any students interested in attending will need to go online http://www.wowtasmania.com.au to apply by 5pm on 24 September.
If there are any queries please contact Lyn Johnston.

Current Year 9 to Year 11 students of French who intend to study French again in 2020 are invited to express an interest in next year’s staff led trip to Nouméa, New Caledonia. This trip will include homestays (in pairs) with families as well as three hours of French Language lessons for four days at a Language School.
