From the Principal

It is hard to believe we are now very close to the end of Term 2 and half way through our school year!

My focus as Principal of Langwarrin Park Primary school is to build a culture that is centred around having a strong sense of community, inclusion and connectedness.

There have been many examples this term where these have been on display. Such examples have included:

  1. Our Grade 6 student leaders attending the Langwarrin Community Centre ANZAC Day service.
  2. Our Grade 3-6 House Cross Country
  3. Our whole school Education Week Open Night
  4. Our school Mothers Day stall
  5. A number of school tours for 2024 Foundation families
  6. The Grade 6 camp to, The Summit.
  7. Students representing our school at different sporting events
  8. Our Grade 4-6 students being involved in the THRIVE network 'One Love' Anti-Racism project
  9. The Grade 5 camp to Sovereign Hill
  10. Parents and carers supporting teachers by assisting with reading, attending excursions and camps, being on PFC and School Council.

School Reports

Your child's Semester 1 report has been published to the Sentral Parent Portal. I strongly encourage all parents and carers to take the time to sit down with your child to discuss their reports. All teachers have spent a considerable amount of time to collect data across the semester and comment on their achievement against the curriculum standards in the Victorian Curriculum.

Please let your child's teacher know if you are having difficulties in accessing your child's reports.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Next Monday and Tuesday we will be running our Parent-Teacher interviews via Webex or phone. Bookings for your child's interviews can be made using the Sentral Parent Portal. The bookings will remain open until 12pm on Monday. When you have made your booking, your child's teacher will contact with you to confirm whether the interview will be done via Webex or phone.

This 10 minute interview is discuss your child's report.

This interview is an important opportunity for you to be able to discuss and celebrate the achievements of your child.

One Love Anti-Racism Project

Over the last three weeks our Grade 4-6 students have been involved in a THRIVE network anti-racism project (One Love). The purpose of this project is to raise awareness around racism and the impact this behaviour has on others. Students in Grade 4-6 were involved in a 50 minute workshop led by One Love facilitators. They were very powerful sessions and our students learnt a considerable amount as a result. Our staff were also involved in a staff workshop as well, which was highly informative.

In the second half of the year, there will be more work completed as a network for this project.

Grade 6 THRIVE Network Student Leadership Day

Next Wednesday our Grade 6 student leaders will be attending a THRIVE network student leadership day at EMC. This will be a wonderful opportunity of our school's student leaders to work with student leaders from our other THRIVE schools. Across the day they will be involved in a range of workshops to build their leadership capabilities.

Big Freeze Assembly

I would like to thank all families who have already supported our Big Freeze fundraising event! As I write my report, the current amount raised is nearly $1200. We all know how great this cause is and the more money we can raise as a school community, the better.

The Big Freeze assembly will be at 12pm next Friday. At this stage, we will have everyone together in the hall for this special event.

I look forward to having a number of buckets of ice dumped on me. I wonder who the Iceman will be coming dressed up as this year??

Last day of Term 2

Our last day of Term 2 is Friday 23rd June. School finishing time will be 2.30pm.

On behalf of all staff, I would like to thank everyone in our wonderful school community for all your support across Term 2. We have an exciting final week ahead to finish off the term, before we all can enjoy a well earnt and deserved 2 week break.

Stay safe everyone.

Richard
