Drawing Us Together Community Story Project

Charter Hall is sponsoring the Drawing Us Together illustration competition to celebrate NAIDOC Week at Southgate Square. Charter Hall has partnered with Bianca Stawiarski, an Indigenous author, to develop a children’s story book. The story, titled Gami Winda and Dyindi-Dyrindi, is a modern story based around the inheritance of our identity.

Each participating school was given 2 to 4 pages of the book to design and illustrate. The illustrations will be displayed in Southgate Square with the community asked to vote for their favourite illustration for each page. The favourite designs will be created into a book made available for the community. The centre will host a presentation ceremony after NAIDOC week.

Phoebe and Sue have been working with Melissa Thiele, the art teacher, to assist the Holly classes with the artwork. We have 23 students whose art will be part of the display. We hope you get a chance to go to Southgate shopping centre at Morphett Vale to look at the fantastic artwork between 24th June and the 16th of July and vote for your favourite piece of art. The winners will be announced on the 21st July.

The students whose artwork will be displayed are:

Ms Martyne’s class - Chase, Layla, Elijah F, Alex, Archie, Sam, Eli C, Ava

Mr Kaesler’s class - Ryan, Kaylee, Max, Holly, Zalia, Emily
