Springvale Rise Primary School Community Hub

All Things Hub

With the term coming to an end, we have had a busy couple of weeks! On June 7th our school was invited to the 2023 National Community Hubs Conference which was held at the RACV City Club. We met other hub leaders, principals and school staff from across Australia. Our Principal, Debbie Cottier was invited to present with a group of Principals from other school about why Community Hubs are so important to schools and shared wonderful stories about our Springvale Rise Community Hub. In addition, I was given the opportunity to share about our Hub's collaborative project with Dandenong South Primary School, the Annual Women’s Health Forum.  With many ideas shared across the nation, we have lots of exciting plans for our Community Hub for the future. For now, let’s look at what’s been happening in hub.

English Classes – Springvale Campus

We now offer classes on:

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday morning from

9am-11am.

Free childminding is available too.

This week, our English class students had the opportunity to bake Anzac biscuits from the ingredients purchased earlier at the Woolworths incursion. Students worked in groups to read the ingredients list, find equipment needed , and follow the instructions correctly. It was a great opportunity to explore and learn about ‘verbs’ and reading them in recipes.

Playgroup – Springvale and Heights Campus

Tuesday: Playgroup

9.00 - 11.00: Heights Campus

Wednesday: Playgroup

 9.00 - 11.00: Springvale Campus

In playgroup, we had the opportunity to learn and understand about Reconciliation Week. We spoke about our nations history and what we can do to be informed. The theme this year was ‘Be a Voice’ and we all painted natural leaves collected from outside and used Indigenous Australian symbols to form our artwork.

Women's Friendship Group

Wednesday Springvale Campus                   11.30-1.30pm

Connect with other women whilst having fun participating in a variety of activities such as crafting, cooking and many more!

Friday Heights Campus

9am-12pm

Learn to sew at Women’s Friendship group, a great opportunity to meet others while learning new skills.

We had another parent from Springvale Rise Primary School lead our Women’s Wellbeing Group this week, she taught our women how to cook a traditional dish from her country. It was a vegetarian dish that had vermicelli noodles, carrots, cabbage, spring onion and egg for protein. It was delicious! If you would like to learn a new skill and make some new friends, please come along to our group. Everyone is welcome!

Please don't forget to follow the Springvale Rise Community Hub Facebook page for more information and updates.
