SLC camp is finally here! Everybody is so excited to go. The 5/6s will be attending a camp at Phillip Island. Everyone can’t wait to be able to bond with their classmates and teachers, and make some new friends. They will be participating in various activities such as, attending a chocolate factory to see how chocolate is made (we are all hoping there will be samples to try too), archery, disc golf and even the penguin parade. Phillip Island is going to be exceptionally cold so the seniors will be needing to pack some really warm clothes!

This week the 5/6s also had an incursion. This incursion was called Book Bash. Two wonderful authors talked about their passion for storytelling and gave us tips on how to write our own fantastic texts. These authors created the wonderful books of ‘The Worst Week Ever!’ series and the ‘Macca the Alpaca’ series. Schools from all around Victoria attended the meeting. Moreover, we got to illustrate some great drawings for an alpaca . At the end, the authors did a Q&A so we got to ask some questions to the authors. It was an overall great experience.

The SLC are now moving towards the Interschool Sports Finals!! Soccer and netball have qualified for the finals and are now going to compete against another school who have also qualified. We are also going to be competing against the Springvale Campus in all sports. We wish goodluck to our interschool sports teams.

The SLC wasn’t the only learning centre who had a fun excursion. The JLC went to an area where they could test their senses. Especially sight, touch and more. For sight they went to areas in which were illuminated and they tested things out with the premise of LIGHT! For hearing they put special things on their ears and heard interesting sounds. Now for the feel, they touched interesting materials. They used their 5 senses to experience their surroundings.

Next week is Refugee week. What is Refugee Week? An annual event that runs from Saturday 18th June to Sunday 24th June. Refugee Week is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of refugees to Australian society.  This year’s theme is about finding freedom. To be free is to feel safe, to live without fear of war and to have basic human rights.
