St Brigid Senior Learning Centre Opening Ceremony

On Tuesday 20 June, we held the official opening of the new St Brigid Senior Learning Centre and refurbished Kennedy Hall. The evening was attended by a great many special guests from the local and wider Killester and Springvale Community who came together with us to celebrate this wonderful occasion in the life of the College.

The first part of our ceremony was conducted by Indigenous elder, Murrindindi, and his grand-daughter Ava. The singing of the Welcome to Country, the Acknowledgment of Country and deeply moving smoking ceremony, ensured we rightfully acknowledged the land on which our school stands as being Bunurong Land and that it has never been ceded. Our guests then sat as our College Leaders progressed our sacred symbols into our new space and we celebrated the traditions of our founders, the Brigidine Order, and determined our commitment to work with hope and excitement as a member of the Kildare Ministries.

The co-trustees of Kildare Ministries, Ms Rosemary Copeland and Ms Kathy McEvoy, officially blessed and opened our new building, delivering beautifully crafted speeches that wove the history and narrative of the Killester story into our wider call to educate young people of faith, hope and wonder.

We thanked all who had been involved in the years of work that went into the creation of our new spaces. In particular, we acknowledged the work of Killester staff Sandra Rotunno and Ralph Wellington who worked alongside the creative genius of McIldowie and Partners, especially Craig Brown, John Kirk and Kalynda Davidson. We also thanked the staff at APM Group, referencing Tony Marincic, Hayden Stewart and Paul Howard for their tireless work in bringing this vision to life.

It was an evening of great celebration and the building itself has been a hive of learning and socialising for the Killester students and staff.
