CGSAV Hockey - 16th June

Friday 16th June, Killester College sent Junior and Senior field hockey teams to the State Hockey Centre in Parkville to participate in the CGSAV Hockey competition. Our teams had a fantastic day out on the pitch, with both the Junior and Senior teams finishing in third in their divisions. A big thank you and congratulations to all of the staff and students involved.

Textiles - 19th June

Welcome to Term 3! This is a fantastic opportunity to look over some of the amazing garments Years 9, 10 and 11 have created in Semester One.

Year 9 students worked hard to complete their shorts, some choosing to extend their sewing skills by applying a patch pocket on the rear, or sewing lace trim to the hems.

Year 10 students have completed their hoodies, each made with a separate theme. Students chose from a range of complex processes to include on their garment, from button holes for drawstrings, screen printed logos, embroidery and applique.

Unit 1 students worked in teams to complete athletic wear suitable for the new Senior Centre at Killester College. The garments were each unique, linking well to criteria from the brief.

All students should be applauded for their hard work over the Semester. Their skills have grown immensely. I look forward to seeing what future Textile products they create.

VET EXPO - 20th June

On Tuesday the 20th of June, the Year 12 VCE VM students demonstrated to students and teachers at lunchtime some of the different VET options available for students.

Some of the feedback received was:

“It was fun having the teachers involved in the activities.” Trish P

“I learnt about architecture which I didn’t know anything about before and we normally wouldn’t look at. I found out information about currencies, time differences and countries.” Chloe T

Finding Freedom Butterfly - 21st June

During Homeroom, students participated in adding their message of hope, welcome, compassion and love on the 'Finding Freedom' Butterfly on the RE display board.

One of the many activities students can be involved in during 'Refugee Week'.

Year 7 and 8 Wonder Showcase - 22nd June

Last term our Year 7 and 8 students showcased their Semester 1 Wonder Project in our new Kennedy Hall. There were so many beautiful and well thought out pieces sparked questions and curiosity among the students.

The core purpose of our Wonder program is to empower students to create, innovate and solve problems. By tapping into natural curiosity and the innate ability of humans to create, Wonder will engage students because they will have increased involvement in the learning process.

Year 12 Vocational Major Cupcakes - 22nd June

On Thursday the 22nd of June, the Year 12 VCE VM students sold very yummy cupcakes to raise funds for Wellsprings for Women. This was held in the Atrium at lunchtime. The three flavours were vanilla, chocolate and red velvet. We also added blue frosting on top of the cupcakes representing the colour of the Wellsprings logo.

We were grateful to see all the students and staff that were interested in buying one or multiple cupcakes. As a Kildare school, we are very grateful to be connected with and be able to donate to Wellsprings for Women.

We made $263.40 and sold most of the cupcakes. Thank you to everyone who helped us to make a difference.

Year 10 Work Experience Program - 23rd June

After seeing the CMP group present at our Dare to Dream week earlier in the year, three lucky students were fortunate enough to be able to attend their work experience program at the end of term.

CMP is a multi-disciplinary engineering firm specialising in design, project management and construction in the water industry. Students took part in researching and designing their own water pump system to provide an insight into career paths in the STEM, specifically engineering fields.

We're looking forward to continuing our partnership with CMP in the future to continue to provide exceptional programs and insight for our students.

International Netball Competition - 26th June

The first week of the school holidays saw our Senior International Netball Team compete at the International Netball Schools Championship at Waverley Netball Centre.

It was four days of tough competition and we are extremely proud of our students' efforts!

Overall we won five games, drew one and lost five, leaving us coming twelfth out of twenty four schools!

We would like to thank and congratulate the following students for their commitment and great attitudes throughout the tournament. They truly displayed the school's motto of strength and kindliness.

Sienna, Keely, Georgie, Chloe, Lily, Mila, Charlotte, Audrey, Florence & Maddy.

SEGAP Junior Badminton, Basketball and Futsal Grand Finals

Throughout Term 2, Killester College had Junior Basketball, Badminton and Futsal Teams representing the college to compete with surrounding schools in the SEGAP competition. We ended up having teams from each sport make it into the Grand Finals, which were held late last term. We are so proud of everyone's efforts as this is a big achievement in itself.

Our Basketball team ended up finishing second overall for the competition.

Our Badminton pairs worked well together and all six of our pairs won their Grand Final matches.

Our Futsal team came up against a tough match, having their game initially end in a draw, going into overtime and finishing with a penalty shoot out to decide the winner, with our Killester team winning the Grand Final in the end. A big thank you and congratulations to all of the students and staff involved.

Career Expo - 13th July

What an inspiring time our students from Years 10-12 had this afternoon! Our Kennedy Hall hosted a wide range of exhibitors for our students to seek information and learn about what their post study pathway may look like.

It is always an exciting experience for our students and we would like to extend our thanks to the TAFE and Universities who came to the college and diligently answered all our student's questions.
