1st XVIII  OBLATE CUP Match

Mazenod  6.6   def  CBC   3.9

Its always a tough ask in the top tier of the School Boys Cup to walk away with the flag especially when you are up against 5 “Football Schools” who train together daily and have non- teaching staff devoted to the teams development. We had a “dream goal” and we had our achievable goal of beating CBC Fremantle in the Oblate Cup which we did Wednesday afternoon. The last time our name was on the “silverware” was 2015 and its nice to finally see the cup back up in the hills.

The backline held very well in the first half with Mitch G and Sasha J clearing the ball  time and time again. Zaid “McGovern” B (BOG) was a constant pain in the  CBC forward setup continually cutting of attack after attack. Twenty four hours earlier he declared himself unfit with a dislocated finger! Tough. Love it.

The season standouts in the form of Max F and Ben S worked the ball forward with Xavier De G dominating his wing. I love how all three go about their football. Michael “the Bull” De G was consistent but really brought it home for Mazenod in the second half. If he wasn’t busy representing WA (Australia one day) in baseball he would be a walk in at Swans Colts and looked at for the AFL.

Forwards put six on the board and I particularly liked the efforts of Max F for 2 goals and a vital goal by Alex P in the second half dropped my blood pressure. Well done to Josh M, Rocco D and Seth C who all scored singles. I’m hard on the forwards being a backline player but I believe Seth and the boys did their job. Thank you.

I would like to mention the efforts of our youngest player, Year 10 Julius P. Fearless in every contest and committed to the ball no matter the size of his opponent, which during the 6 games he played always outsized him. Thank you Julius and I look forward to watching you go forward.

Thank you to Mr Michael Ellul for managing this season and Mr Beau Hemley for running several kilometres along the boundary. I must also thank Mr Chris Mason for making the job that much easier. Captain Thomas M needs to be acknowledged for his assistance and motivating the team. Thank you Thomas. But most of all thank you to the boys for their commitment and enthusiasm in representing Mazza. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The First XI

The First XI produced a clinical performance this week with a 8-0 home victory. The goals came from Lachlan U (2), Nicolas E (2), Joel P, Tomi R, Harry B and Patryk C. It was a great team performance. The final game will be in Week 10. A victory will hopefully secure the team a spot in the finals.

Junior Soccer Report Game 4 2023

The Mazenod College Junior Soccer Team travelled to Lynwood after a 2 week break. The team were looking to continue their winning streak after a strong win in the previous game against Southern River. In wet and cold conditions the game was dominated from start to finish by Mazenod, with Lynwood rarely threatening the goal. We struck first through Lucas R, scoring off a well-timed pass to give us the early advantage.

Lynwood dug in on defence and made it hard for us to take advantage of multiple scoring opportunities, being denied by some fantastic goal keeping from the Lynwood keeper. However, 2 minutes before the end of the game Lucas R got his brace with another goal to give Mazenod a 2-0 win. It was another good performance by the team who play their last game in Week 9 against Cannington Community College at Mazenod.

Many thanks to the parents who came and supported the team in the wet.

SSWA Champion Schools Volleyball South East Region

Last Wednesday, Mazenod’s best volleyballers competed in the Champion Schools competition at Warwick Stadium. The team started with an exciting draw at 1 set all. They quickly realised the competition was fierce. At times, there was some fantastic volleyball played as the sets were right on point and the spikes were low and hard!

Unfortunately, we did not progress to the next stages of the competition as we didn’t finish with enough wins, but I would like to thank the team for their approach and teamwork throughout the day.

The future of volleyball is bright at Mazenod and we will look to keep improving for next year.

Mazenod Celebrates Victory in Thrilling Quarter Final Match Against Byford

In the highly anticipated quarter final of the School Sports WA competition, Mazenod took on Byford in a game that had fans on the edge of their seats from start to finish. This game marked an important milestone for the Mazenod team as it was their first home game in 17 matches, and they certainly made it a memorable one.

The game began with Mazenod facing some early challenges, struggling to find their rhythm against a strong Byford team. With 12 minutes gone in the first half, Mazenod found themselves trailing by 11 points. However, it was clear that they were determined to turn the tide.

With sheer determination we managed to regroup and unleash a stunning offensive performance. They went on an impressive 12-point scoring streak, stunning their opponents to take the lead at halftime. This remarkable turnaround showcased the resilience and tenacity of the Mazenod players.

As the second half unfolded, Mazenod continued to demonstrate their prowess. Playing high-tempo basketball, they maintained their intensity and executed their game plans. As the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard displayed a well-deserved victory for us, with a final score of 52-46.
