Campaspe Netball Tournament

On Friday the 26th of May the 5/6’s went to the Netball Tournament and participated against other schools. We had a Grade 6 girls’ team, 2 mixed Grade 6 teams and 2 Grade 5 mixed teams. Each team played six games.

The 5/6’s were out of school for the whole day, and everyone had heaps of fun.

At the end of the day everyone who participated in netball got a lolly bag from the teacher in their netball team, everyone played fairly.

Our coaches for the day were Mrs Bradley, Miss Mitchell, Mrs Cuttriss, Georgie, Mrs Mathers, and Mrs McKee.

In the morning when we got off the bus, we had to find our teacher and get into our netball teams and 2 teams went into the stadium and the rest were outside. It was cold but it eventually warmed up. Each team played 6 rounds and versed different schools. The teams were skilled in their own way. They showed respect towards the opposition teams and the umpires.

Reconciliation

On Monday the 29th of May,  the Cultural Leaders joined the Reconciliation Community Walk.

We left school at 10 am and travelled by bus to the Alton Gallery. When we arrived, different schools gathered together, Chris gave a speech to begin the smoking ceremony. Uncle Rick Ronnan started the ceremony by giving a speech and starting the fire. Uncle Rick started putting our native plants on the fire, such as gum leaves etc. Once Uncle Rick got the smoke going, everybody started walking through the smoke cleansing themselves. Once everybody went through the smoke, we all started walking to the port. It wasn’t a far walk from the Alton Gallery. Once everybody reached the port, we gathered in front of the gazebo at the port. The mayor gave a speech and some others did as well. Once the event was over, we travelled by bus back to school around 11:30 am.

On May the 31st Wednesday, our students got together with their buddy grades and made Reconciliation hearts together. While the other students did that, us Cultural leaders prepared a speech to read in front of the whole school. When the session ended, everybody gathered  at the elbow of the courtyard with some students and teachers from the Specialist School. Uncle Rick gave a speech and started the fire, then he handed the cultural leaders the microphone to start our speech. All us cultural leaders had a go of reading at least 1 paragraph, so we all had a go. The speech was about the song from Little Things Big Things Grow by Kev Carmody and Paul Kelly. After we read the speech, they started playing the song. Once Uncle Rick got the smoke going each class lined up and all went through the smoke, once everybody went through the smoke everyone returned to their classrooms.

Congratulations Skye

Our student Skye H is starring in a short film Loki & Me. The short film is being made in the Port of Echuca. The new film will feature in the upcoming Focus on Ability in the short film festival.

Loki and Me

Working in the film was really fun. I loved every bit of it, we had lots of breaks. My favourite part was my costume, it looked so good! It was very cold at the start but then it eventually got warmer. I was so tired when the whole film was done. It was such a long time to make this film but in the end it turned out so good.
