Main Campus - Year 4

The Year four students have been busy learning about War on Waste as part of their Inquiry this Term. They have enjoyed watching the War on Waste episodes and learning all about the processes of rubbish disposing and recycling in Australia. The students have been creating their own Flip Books about waste facts and how to reduce waste into our own environment. They have recorded their own ideas about how to recycle products and reuse everyday items.

Some interesting facts:

In Australia, people use one billion coffee cups per year which is 2.5 times of cups that circle around the world. Imagine how many more are used in the whole world. We cannot recycle coffee cups because the rim of the cup is made of polyethylene which is a type of plastic, 95% is paper and 5% is the rim plastic part. By Cade

A big problem with plastic is that it can fly away. Soft plastic is so light that it can fly into the water and kill our beloved marine animals. Scientists estimate that there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish by the year 2050. By Claudia

Did you know that five billion clothes are thrown out each year in Australia. Fashion waste can fill the MCG each year. One T-shirt uses 2700 litres of water to make, which is enough water for one person for 3 years. Half a million of material goes to landfill every year. By Sophie

We can make changes to reduce waste – War on Waste. We can BYO coffee cups to cafes, use reusable bags when shopping and buy fruit that may not be perfect. By Taylor.

A great effort to the year four artists of the week
