Senior Unit - 5/6

BRING OUT THE POETRY!

Senior Unit

You may have heard of William Shakespeare, T.S Eliot and William Wordsworth but let us introduce you to all the talented poets of Woodend Primary School! These budding young poets have been exploring the world of poetry by analysing figurative language and experimenting with poetic devices when expressing their feelings and thoughts through quatrains, limericks, couplets, clerihews and list poems.

We have had so much fun playing with language and creating rhythm in our pieces of work. Each week we sit in the poet's chair and share our creations with each other. We hope you enjoy our poetry pieces we have been working on so far!

I love the ocean

and all its motion

It's like a magical healing potion.

It’s full of life and moral

with all of the fish and beautiful coral.

But what really puts the wind in my sails

is the wonderful, majestic humpback whales.

There was an old lady named Jess

Who’s house was always a mess.

I would rather live in a cage,

Because how dirty her house is makes me rage.

The only thing to do in her house is play chess.

A quick snack on the go

Not as popular as cookie dough,

But if you peel off the skin,

It reveals a beautiful pattern within.

Some grow on trees,

Some are full of vitamin C,

Some grow in spring and seeds they will bring.

As refreshing as they are in the summertime,

My least favourite is a lime.

A healthy addition,

It’s my new mission,

They save the day so snack away!

During Maths, we have been learning all about fractions by ordering common, equivalent and improper fractions on a number line. We have been practising being problem solvers by working together and proving our thinking when exploring how many pieces of chocolate cake our families would receive if we each had 1 rectangular tray.
