Every Body Happy

On Friday 24 June, the Year 10 cohort were fortunate to have a super special presentation by "Evelyn Summers,"  a 'CEO and expert' in body image... well not really Evelyn Summers and not really a CEO or an official expert in body image...

The presentation, "EVERY BODY HAPPY," explored some of the big furphies of the fashion and advertising industries and looked at strategies for feeling good in your body, especially in a world bombarded by images of computer adjusted women.

Our presenter challenged our students to re-think the popular notion of “beauty”. We don’t all come in the same package; there are many different shapes and sizes that are healthy and in her comic show, she strongly suggested that it was time to start celebrating and embracing diversity. Kelly Nash, the real name of our guest, began the presentation as “Evelyn Summers” and finished it as herself. 

Through all the fun and laughter, the year 10s were able to understand that beauty is about the whole person, not just about what is on the outside. It was then clear the prayer we had prayed at the start of the session -

Dear Lord,

Bless my head, my brain, my mind and spirit.

Bless all that made way for this body and this life, right now.

May I go forward in beauty, whole and wholly loved.
