New Senior Certificates
Victoria’s senior secondary education is changing. From 2023, most students will study the VCE. The VCE will now include the VCE - Vocational Major (VCE – VM), a 2-year program that sits within the VCE. There will also be the Victorian Pathways Certificate for those who need flexibility in their learning.
From 2023, the new VCE Vocational Major will replace Intermediate and Senior VCAL. This means the VCE will recognise different students equally. Marian College will deliver the VCE – VM from 2023. More information about the VCE VM can be found on the Marian College SEQTA Subject Selection Portal Page and in the Senior Certificates Subject Handbook.
Subject Selection Processes- Senior Certificates 2023
We are now underway with the subject selection process for Year 11 and 12 students for 2023. This week (Wednesday 20 July) we have our Pathways and Subject Information Webinar for all Year 10 students and their parents.
In addition, students will have information sessions at the College, with information provided by key staff including Learning Leaders, VCE, Applied Learning and VET Coordinators and homeroom/mentor and subject teachers All Year 10 students have completed the Morrisby Profile and almost all have had a one-to-one mentoring session with one of our Careers and Pathways Staff. Homeroom/Mentor Teachers and other selected staff provide additional mentoring for students through this process.
Applications for VCE and VET Accelerated Studies have opened, and a number of students have already completed these. As one component of our Marian Accelerated Learning Track Program, students who have demonstrated excellence in achievement and Marian Learning Behaviours may apply for one or even two VCE and VCE VET Accelerated Studies for 2023.
Applications for the VCE – VM have also opened.
The subject handbooks and all other information related to the subject selection process are available on the Subject Selection Information Portal Page on SEQTA.
Parent Teacher Student Conferences
Our next Parent - Teacher - Student Conferences are scheduled for 11 August and will be again conducted via Google Meet. These conferences provide an important opportunity for you to talk with your daughter and her subject teachers about her learning and progress. These conversations provide valuable feedback on areas of strength and areas where improvements can be made. Strategies can then be discussed and implemented.
Furthermore, the interviews will provide another important opportunity to discuss pathways and subject selection for 2023.
